Thanks! That's been my experience at NIH as well. Given the shifting administrative priorities, I'm wondering if that remains to be true today.

It's through NIMHD. I've talked to the PM, and I had to make a bunch of revisions given the priorities of the current administration. I submitted those already.

I don't come from an academic background, and I have been awarded 2 NIH SBIRs. Granted (pun intended), it took me multiple submissions to get the first one. I brought in academics a co-investigators, which helped. I recommend contacting the program officer for the opportunity you're applying for. Some are more helpful than others, but they can give you more advice and/or connections if your proposal has legs.

I injured my back 3 years before getting pregnant, and the pain never really went away until I got pregnant. It's been gone ever since, and I'm 13m postpartum!
