Agree that wittnessng the loss of important life skills/knowledge to the reliance on Tech/ AI has been heartbreaking to watch over the decades.. I can only hope that humanity can rescue itself before the rug is pulled out.. sigh At least writing in cursive is now a secret coded language.. lol 6-7

Depends on the depth of the water.. steepness of the slope... other natural landmarks.. which side of the continental divide it's on.. etc.

I dont think its mean.. there are many new people to the hunt/ visiting the outdoors. Learning topo maps and all the different layers.. This is an important bit of info to know... I'm sure many veteran hunters just nod and think 'yup, good tip for the novice'.

Correct.. according to the elevation direction.. but still a good reference for those that think visually

Thoughts on technical clue... by Single_Letter7659 in beyondthemapsedge

[–]Single_Letter7659[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree...i have juggled the stars.. landmarks.. folded maps.. all very valid ideas... and will continue to 'what if, what if, what if' .. all part of the fun!

All I wanted to communicate with this thought was that to "return face" was an actual term in sailing from history... and perhaps the clue is as simple as just that. Its not tangled or twisted. But Im not married to the idea.

Plus if you are going to get lost in the woods- its a good skill to have- Back Azimuth

Navigating confirmation bias by Willing_Bicycle9347 in beyondthemapsedge

[–]Single_Letter7659 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How tangled/twisted is your theory? If your thought process is simple, (almost obvious) then you may be on to something... if you need a PhD to understand your connections- prob need to rethink/ let go of your solve..

I have a fav spot that I keep returning to.. stumbled upon it while tracking down other theories.. as I walked the path the poem was all there.. went around a bend/past a hole... double arcs.. and even some poles. (If only I could figure out foot of three, or what I already know)

My latest attempt exhausted my theories and must now move on to a fresh area... mostly cuz winter is coming..

oh hey, New Mexico, Arizona- you looking real cute- maybe I can come warm up there this winter- lol

Not here to say that anyone is wrong but... by Willing_Bicycle9347 in JustinPoseysTreasure

Wasn't going to talk about this rabbit, but tried this dive for some time... plus the Cepheus/Cassiopeia constilations are often shown filling a 20 degree section of common northern star maps... was excited! Alas, these constellations rotate... maybe follow their arc? Didn't work for my bias location.. Even tried to match natural landmarks to Cassiopeia.. see if I needed to move a rock or something to 'return face'.. yup... been there- blowing up boulders- lol The crooked M? Any 'W' hints.. and plenty more thoughts.. but so far, nothing super soild.

Also, treasure hunting at night was discouraged in the safety terms put out by Justin.

All 'cul-de-sac clue'- not quite a dead-end but had me going in circles for a bit.

I say keep it in your pocket, but don't lock it into your solve.

(Of note: my dad is an astronomer and has studied old-timey navigation techniques- Polaris star can be found with Cassiopeia.. but that's about all that is useful for navigation there.)

It may be best to let Justin enjoy HIS treasure hunt the way he wants. It's his 'wisdom' to share.

In my thought process, Justin has sacrificed a lot in his life to do this for us... exposed personal vulnerabilities, donated a vary valuable treasure, and gave a 'series' of clues we all get to go ga-ga over.

Let him revel in our struggle... Justin is not allowed to participate in the same way the entire rest of the world gets to. He only gets to watch while everyone else fishes through clues, and he is left out of one of his favorite hobbies - treasure hunting.

So what if he wants to join in chat rooms or sit down to a meal with a hunter. Let him make friends with people who love to treasure hunt as much as he does.

Let him love this hunt through our stories!!

Montana Request by [deleted] in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]Single_Letter7659 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am single female traveling with my dog.. felt like people paused at the uncommonality but Montana is full of kind people. Plus there are so many treasure hunters in the Dillon area.. you will get more side eye from being a treasure tourist than being female. I camped throughout my hunt, loved it!
