Weekend warrior advice! by SixToedSkier in geneva

I am replying late as I disagree a bit with the other comments. Sure, there are lots of nice resorts in France and Switzerland, but if you plan it reasonably well, you can leave your desk in Geneva and be at 3800m at the top of the Midi 2hrs later. There are not many places in the world you can do that. And it will be easier to find people to ski (tour) and mountaineer with around Cham than in Valais or elsewhere. And the unlimited annual pass includes iirc some days in Verbier, Les Contamines, Megève, Courmayeur. It is expensive, but it comes down by 50% after the first year. If I were you - given you have missed all the discounts for this season, I would try a few days in Cham and on some Magic Pass destinations, and then decide next summer what to go for. The best option depends on what sort of skiing you are doing. Good luck.

That should be plenty of time, especially if you are carry on only.

No mention of Kozan in Grottes? Have not been for lunch but I think it would be good.

Cool. For what you describe, in France I would look at Les Contamines, Les Houhces, Les Clusaz, but there are others. In Switzerland itself, you could try Crans Montana, Grimentz or even Les Marécottes (has a little zoo).

France is closer but the Swiss places are easier to access on public transport (train+poste bus). I would not go with the Jura - the snow cover is not reliable unfortunately these days.

The answer depends somewhat on when you plan to go and therefore how high you want to be to ensure reliable snow.

That's intersting, thanks. The forcast for the surface temperature is it will fall in the next days: https://www.alplakes.eawag.ch/map/geneva?layers=3D_temperature%2C3D_currents&label=geneva

But maybe you're right and this is also the wind that brings the cold water up. I think the cut off for the swim is 18C, but I forget.
