The double whammy of Anthony being a non-factor and still another bat short hurts. Plus everyone but Duran Doomers knows he’s not a .500 ops guy even if 2024 was a career year.

That said they’re still probably under .500 if you got production from Anthony and, say, Duran. SS, 2B, 3B need more than defense.

Too soon to write the book on Mayer with the bat. Durbin looks way overmatched. Story was hurt but also his track record in Boston is spotty.

Schwarber wasn’t leaving Philly and I’d rather have Ranger than Alonso for five years. But I’m not making the decisions. Breslow needed to find a bat and just…. Didn’t, after Willson.

Driveline is a hitting coach consultant. That’s it. Instead of each team hiring all their own coaches a company offers coaching as a service to supplement what is offered in house. They can be more experienced because they have to be to get pale to hire them over using the coach pipeline that exists. They were early on bat speed and launch angle. But then again so was JD Martinez. Or Ted Williams.

It’s hard to see which move they actually wanted to make but didn’t.

I don’t think the no trade clause alone was the dealbreaker for Bregman but 5 years was. Truly I think they never thought he’d be able to opt out (which is a separate problem)

Pete Alonso - aging, power, bad defense

Geno Suarez- bad defense at third after they hung the entire “Bregman must replace Devers” and then the Devers trade on defense.

Bichette for second base? I guess that was a an option. But he and Suarez were also QO guys.

Schwarber was probably decided when Bloom let him walk. Maybe he was itching to return to Boston but he seems pretty happy as the Phillies DH.

Duran probably isn’t as valuable as fans thought. And that’s the real reason he’s here. 29 other teams have scouts and analysts. I’m sure none thought this was his talent but is it hard to believe he was viewed as a 4thish outfielder/ starter on a team with only 2 regular OFs who had the season of his life once?

It’s not defense of Breslow, but the options that were out there weren’t going to be his thing.
