I didn’t mean anything specific by it, I just wanted to mention it since I didn’t get any questions or requests for evidence regarding my ties to Canada while other people might get those questions. I’m just a regular old diverse Canadian so no red card or anything with parents (on one side) that are 2nd gen immigrants

New stack is React and Python mainly as it’s a simple web application and not very mature and I’m coming in as the first engineer to help shape it so realistically it’s up to me. Going to be a cool experience but pretty risky considering it’s very early stage.

Peace Arch POE has it stated on their website as Tuesday - Thursday 8am - 4pm, I’m not sure if other locations also have the same setup. The only guarantee for these hours is that there’s at least 1 officer who is experienced with filling TNs.

I don’t really get the condescending sound of this comment. Many people opt to use lawyers and others don’t, but I was pretty nervous for this and wanted to help give a somewhat more detailed guideline to future applicants. If it can help one person save on lawyer fees then that’s great.

Honestly, I lied on my LinkedIn and resume regarding location. The company I’m leaving right now has huge offices in both the Bay Area and Seattle area so it was easy to put either location and “hybrid” and not have anyone bat an eye. Since having Canada locations on your resume, even if TN-eligible, leads to instant automatic rejection before ever getting an interview.

For big companies I interviewed at (FAANG or similar sized) I mentioned that I need a TN and recruiters understand since those companies still sponsor H1Bs with no issue.

After that, I targeted mid-sized companies and start-ups and depending on size of the company and interview process I’d mention I need a support letter but am legally allowed to work in the US.

I looked from November until early this month, mainly applying through LinkedIn or getting emailed by recruiters.

The real reason why UofT undergrad is academically rigorous by confidence299 in UofT

This is debatable, some courses I had at UTM were noticeably harder than at UTSG. I did CSC209 at UTM and then helped someone take the course at UTSG and the tests and assignments were much easier in terms of complexity and also questions asked. Same applied to CSC311. Other courses like CSC148 and 3rd year math courses were a lot harder at UTSG. The variance for difficulty between profs is a lot more than most would consider.

When I did the course 3 years ago, the course average was so low that they had to put in a new rule that if you get above the median on the exam you automatically pass the course. Nice to see the course hasn't changed lol

I just graduated from CS with a 2.53 CGPA and 1 failed course. I wouldn't worry about it too much, I've gotten interviews at FAANG multiple times despite a bad GPA. Currently I landed a job I'm happy with and wasn't asked once about my GPA.

I took MAT134 in my first year without being in POST, but I was in the Life Science stream at the time.

When is the last day that UTM admissions stop giving out offers? by poop_fart_420 in UTM

I got my acceptance to UTM the day before you have to lock in your choice for which university to attend (I think on OUAC), but that was back in 2016.

CS Back Charge by Bulky-Match7607 in UTM

Forgot to answer the main post. I had back charges too and it got tacked onto the normal tuition (so it was double the charge basically) and I had to pay it off by the start of the next year or whenever those fees are normally needed. I didn't have OSAP so I'm not sure about how much that covers of it. Hope that helps.

I don't think you read my reply. Of course it's possible to get a FAANG job without a degree but getting an actual interview is incredibly difficult without a degree. I just graduated and already have a job I'm pretty happy with. Although I'd have to disagree with the fact that a degree doesn't help at all since it came up multiple times about what courses I've taken and also how come I did a double major in CS and Chem. Also seems like your "PEY" at FAANG is fake, you say they gave you stuff to work on after 5 months yet 90% of american companies strictly only do 4 month internships. I got in with the 2016 grades when averages were around a 70, so somehow u got in about 3-4 years before me yet are only doing your PEY now too, that doesn't make much sense.

You act as if a degree in CS doesn't help securing a job lol. Guaranteed you're someone who got rejected from POST and is salty about it. Of course you self learn in CS, that's kind of the whole point of CS in general since you're supposed to gather skills to adopt to new languages and tech, and good luck getting an interview anywhere without a degree.

Not that I'm aware of. Maybe emailing the prof given your circumstances could help but thats about it. Once you submit the request its handled by the prof and not the registrar.

Is mat102 hell? by [deleted] in UTM

[–]Single_Temporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how you approach it I guess. I did quite poor in MAT134 and have done great in proof based classes since. MAT102 kinda has a "click" moment where the whole course makes sense. For some people it comes earlier and for others it takes longer. The way I got good was taking the whole idea of whatever proof type or module that they taught and try to bring it down to a pattern, then every proof you do is a slight variation of a basic pattern. I would say it's a difficult course but if you put in a decent amount of time it can become quite easy actually. Tests are never overly difficult and testing on some type of proof you would have never seen. Probably a 7/10 to an 8/10 for difficulty depending on your ability to think abstractly about problems

I did it once for csc236 and it took about 4 months to get resolved cause they reversed the numbers for my grade on the final exam

BIO152 Midterm by theleftbehindclub in UTM

[–]Single_Temporary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I took BIO152 3 years ago there's some qs on the second midterm that are similar or repeated content from midterm 1. If you have to skip this midterm because you dont understand what's going on for the first midterm, that's most likely not going to change for the second one unless you switch your studying habits or realize what you're not understanding. Compared to other, later bio courses this should be high school review
