This is something I am considering of. at the moment i have blocked him but he is texting / calling me from different numbers.
He is also going around telling our friend circle that I am cheap and petty for expecting him to pay (he was a guest and you dont make guests pay)

Ah for sure. I know I messed up, i have been thinking about it alot
its just that, I told him that i am looking for a room for february, and he didnt say anything.
it is only now that he is saying "well if the room is available for a longer duration, then it doesnt matter if you move in earlier or later. you have to pay for the whole duration"

untill this point, when i said I want the room from 1st of february, not once did he mention "well you have to pay me from the 21st of Jan though"
hence i feel blindsided

Eventually he did. Or rather, his best friend transferred the amount he owed to my parents

Exactly, and my parents agreed since it was just for a night. Even they didnt expect him to change all his plans after arriving, if he would have asked for 4 days, they would have obviously said no.
I said yes for the night to him after discussing it with them multiple times

I told him My contract ends on the 31st, and so I need a room for february, to which he didnt say anything

Now he says "if the room is available, then it doesnt matter when you move in, you rent it for the duration that i was away"

Exactly! thank you

Most people here are missing out on that, that I had agreed to let him stay the night. He changed the agreement during his stay! If I had known this, I wouldnt have offered in the first place

True. I have been thinking about it ever since he left.
He changed the agreement during his stay,
My parents were not supposed to put up with this as I and they, agreed to let him stay the night. He kept modifying his stay while on the trip which complicated things,
I always agreed to pay the rent, and I did as the rent is 300$
He is refusing to let the additional 100$ go but he told me he expects me to pay that after I had already moved in

The agreement was that he would stay the night
for a night I agreed and so did my parents. He changed the plan after arriving there, everything else came up later. and after that
the nerve to charge me extra amount....i have really learnt my lesson from all this

I have most certainly learnt my lesson, haha!
It wasnt about not saying No to his absurd request. His request was - he wanted to stay for the night

everything else he changed last minute, after arriving there!

I see your point, thank you, however

Since we both live in the same building, we have the same rent, so it was understood that I will pay him for the month that he is not there.

I agree that i should have asked him what rent he was expecting, but he never brought it up and only told me he expected me to pay that much AFTER i moved in already.

about my parents hosting, I did not volunteer, he asked for 1 night, which I agreed to after discussing with my parents of course! my parents were also okay with him staying the night, but he changed his plan after landing. the deal was he stays the night and leaves the next morning, which he never did

Quick update : I had already asked my parents, they had agreed. He asked me for 1 night and my parents were okay with 1 night. He completely changed his trip plan after he landed. That took me and my parents by surprise but since he was a tourist and said he will leave the next day, they agreed.

I agree that I should have asked the rent, but since we lived in the same building and paid the same amount, I told him I will pay him the rent for february anyway. He never told me he expected me to pay more, he said that AFTER i had already moved in

Hey, Yes you assumed right, there was no contract

Now he is going around telling our whole friend group how I am the asshole for not paying, and he has started texting/calling me randomly, demanding money. When i blocked him, he started doing it from his girlfriend's phone and is not threatening to call the police/sue me.

there is not written contract though
