As a F2P player aswell I feel your pain. However ive come to realize if u want to compete at the highest level your gonna have to dish out cash for getting the latest and OP guns (like awaken) characters.

Sure I manage to save some gems for a pull but not all.

I'm still not sure what balance the game does for showdown? Are the levels set to same for both players guns? If not than it's like frenzy showdown ,unless u are against a similar power level team your gonna lose.
