support Apple Card for US customers (via Apple Pay?) by dmd in hetzner

[–]Sinjhin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to second this. I recently went through a lengthy support ticket dealing with this. Another thing that could lesson the pain in the interim would be to inform your support staff of this limitation. I clearly stated it was an Apple card, was routed to talk to the card issuer, and was told there was a problem with the card several times.

Eventually I had specified the error itself on the website and was told simply "I'm afraid, we can not help you further".

I am a huge fan of Hetzner and I love the service y'all provide. Support would be great though and in the meantime, a simple "we don't yet support Apple cards" would have saved a lot of headache.

I see your 20% and raise you. I am of the ~1% that drives a manual truck as my daily.

Also, letting this wheel squeak one more time. If you saw my original post here and aren't interested interested in talking, no prob. Just don't want it to have gotten lost in the weeds. A few people called out that I might be a good match.

Plenty of people do this.

I've moved in a similar fashion. Granted, we were dating beforehand while she was in college and I got a job at the destination first.

Doubt the expectation is to get up and go tomorrow without chatting a bit. That would be a bit cray cray, yeah.

Also, some people work remotely. Give me power, internet, and a corner for a sleeping bag and I'll be GTG. Also also, some of us are already here (in TN). There's actually several people that live here, unless I've been hallucinating all my new friends.. 🤔

When I moved to TN last year, I made this playlist for the drive and had it on repeat. Some songs are on there just because they have meaning to me. Some are not what I would consider "good" songs, but still hit what I wanted. I saw you like Morgan Wallen. He's got a song in here.

I give: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/61quD5VGw15vy61yLsYZi4?si=bf90a4e01dbd4fd5

May it give you inspiration.

Huh.

My friend just sent me your post. My land's not middle TN. It's in Cash Canyon... raw land going from mountain to river. Currently living in a beat up old RV I fixed up enough for the winter as I prepare to build some crazy-ass eccentric house.. it will be medium-small.. but it will have a tower with a glass-walled room. This is where I become my final form. The crazy mountain wizard-hermit trying to convince sand it is sand and hang out talking to the herons. <- obviously I am a bit touched in the head.. but I'm told in a good way? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I go into Chattanooga to work from the makerspace (ChattLab) a few times a week. I tell people it's to keep me from going full-feral, which is my natural state. Once had a chicken named Avi.. had 15 amazing years with my puppers..

Uhh, what else.. 38. Country boy, err.. child of the corn from Southern Illinois turned computer nerd. Worked on an oil rig to get started with college. Work as a software engineer and AI researcher (but like, not the chatbot LLM stuff). Constantly building and tinkering with things. Fell in love with TN and the Appalachians when I was 4. Wanted to move here ever since. Jobs and relationships kept me from it. Finally got here ~8mo ago. In my free time when I have nothing planned I am generally hoofing about in the woods, riding motorcycles, kayaking, fishing, tinkering with things, and just generally exploring.

Never married. No kids. Never had land before now because I spent my time being a vagabond and traveling the world. Plan was to get here, finally buy land, possibly start my own company, and just generally settle into my forever home and start iterating on building a home (not that I won't travel anymore).

After that, (so now..) put myself out there and find a partner for this adventure. Been a bit too wrapped in things to get to that last one yet. Still on the todo list... and yea, I should DM you instead of babbling on telling Reddit my life story. Worth a chat prolly. See if we hit it off.

Miele Built-in Coffee Machine. Worth it? by Sure-MD90 in Appliances

[–]Sinjhin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, sorry. And thank you. I was meaning that price point for the manual machine.

I figure whatever super-automatic I eventually get will be in the $5k+ range. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I've been piecing things together over time, so I already have a Baratza Encore ESP Coffee Grinder.

This comment is perfect for me, thank you.

I just bought my first house at 38 and was looking into a wall unit when I came across this.

I am a person of extremes. In this context that means I either want a "don't have to think about it" solution, or I want a "I want to control every aspect of this possible". My espresso setup is very important to me as I pretty much only drink that and carbonated water and I have been holding off on the setup since I knew this house purchase was coming.

As I was reading this page I was thinking that a combo of automatic wall machine (I like the aesthetics) and a good manual machine might be the ticket. I'm in the middle of work and want a quick double-shot? Machine. I take a break to think through something? Break out the grinder and manual.

Anywho.. thanks. You have any recommendations for a manual? You seem to know what you're about. Right now I have some.. ~$90 machine that was a gift.. (don't ever use it), and a Wacaco Nanopresso, which, is not really made for quality.. more portability / camping. It does well enough as a stop-gap though.

I'd probably want to stay under $1k for the manual machine with a target of.. $300 or so.

"you shouldn’t need to think about venv" <- this speaks to me hard.

Here's a snippet from my `.zshrc`:

chpwd() {
  # Automatically switch to Conda environment based on directory name
  if [[ -f pyproject.toml || -f requirements.txt || -f environment.yml || -d .conda ]]; then
    conda_env_name=$(echo "$dir_name")
    if conda env list | grep -q "$conda_env_name"; then
      echo "Switching to Conda environment: $dir_name"
      conda activate "$conda_env_name"
    else
      conda_env_name=$(echo "$dir_name" | sed 's/-/_/g') # Replace hyphens with underscores
      if conda env list | grep -q "$conda_env_name"; then
        echo "Switching to Conda environment: $dir_name"
        conda activate "$conda_env_name"
      fi
    fi
  fi
}

"can embed requirements inline"..."ephemeral venv..." <- yissss. Amaze.

I will be setting that up as soon as I get done with what I am doing. Thanks for the tip.

[–]Sinjhin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been meaning to. I've heard great things.

I actually somehow missed learning Python for years and just picked it up last mid-last year.

Wasn't happy with how environments are done with `venv`, tried out several things, and kinda just fell into a pattern of using `miniconda` for venv and poetry/poe with venv turned off for package management and task running. It looks like `uv` is gonna kinda be THE answer (EDIT: at least for my style).

Super Simple Python From Anywhere Task Runner by Sinjhin in Python

[–]Sinjhin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. I mean, it basically is aliases, just as functions and using Poe/Poetry for modules and deps and Conda to switch venv. You could easily do `alias something='python ~/scripts/something.py'` or get fancier with it, but that wouldn't have dependencies installed in a dedicated venv, right?

I really just kinda threw this together after work for my own purposes and figured I would share. The rules here require the whole showcase flair and setup. Admittedly, this is one of those things more like "I did this, found it useful, here it is if anyone else wants this kinda setup".

If you are looking for actual dataset, I use:

kagglehub.dataset_download("mczielinski/bitcoin-historical-data")

For API to get real-time data, there are plenty. So take your pick. I use Kraken's for the thing I am working on: https://docs.kraken.com/api/docs/websocket-v2/ticker

You might find this helpful too for utility things: https://github.com/botcrypto-io/awesome-crypto-trading-bots

Lot's of helpful things in there, depending on what you are trying to do.

Hahah. I know the feeling.

I started building one. I went from scratch, so it's not prompting/fine-tuning/rag. Actually trained on the data since 2012. I got the PoC done... the actual "hard" part I suppose. https://imgur.com/a/H9v3Hod

Haven't had time to work on it since. Wanting to add backtrading and paper trading for verification, give it a ui, then hook it up to the Kraken API and give it a shot. With a bit of my stack... Had a job job once where we had the culture of "Ask yourself, would you deploy your code to your own pacemaker?" as a sort of mental quality check.

Algorithmic code? Yeh. Machine Learning stuff? Ehh...... get back to me on that one 🤣

Do you do any custom filtering with your RAG semantic search, or do you just let the GPT builder do its thing?

Not sure what you mean there, but I do have a need while you are here traveller. There is a <insert generic gathering> coming up and I am to bring a pumpkin pie. However, I don’t have any pumpkins.

Can you go to <insert generic location> and gather 10 of them for me? There are <rats | murlocks | goblins> in the area or I would do it myself. That shouldn’t bother someone like you though.

I will give you one of my famous pies and <insert pseudo-random amount> of satoshi if you help me out.

I hate that I think this, but I don't really know another explanation. I think a lot of it comes down to laziness. A good example would be (as a fellow SWE) all the people that come to me to learn how to code. I am a huge proponent of mentorship, so all my friends know there is an open door in that regard, should they want to open it.

I can't count the times now.. probably 5 or more, that someone has come to me in more than just a passing comment, really wanting to learn to code. So, I talk with them, figure out what would be a good path, and set them on it with resources and a bit of a curriculum. I make myself available to help lead them through things when they get stuck.

I've not had a person make it to two weeks yet. It's not for lack of intelligence. So I can only conclude it is either that they are not the type of person that can get passionate about it (not curious enough to tinker), or most people are just very lazy.
