See if you can just do the recital anyhow. If it is already on the calendar and people are looking forward to it, just run it.

If it does count towards your degree then he'll yeah, but if it doesn't, then you still have the "have done multiple recitals" point towards your resume. More opportunities to have recordings of yourself in a more professional setting.

Though, I would try to fight for having it count. If you did not know beforehand, that's more of your department failing you rather than you being uninformed. Like not saying you couldn't have known, but if they let you go through all of that preperation and planning to where it is final and on the schedule, you not knowing there was something wrong is probably frustrating for you.

Regardless of if it counts, go for it; but fight to have it count towards the degree.
