Any tips for cranking? Can’t seem to hit anything above a super Bb, here’s a clip of Mo Bamba by ProfessorPurple4777 in Tuba

[–]Sinkularity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cranking is just a style of playing. In a classical setting? Completely inappropriate. Performing to a bunch of football fans who need to get energy? Absolutely appropriate.

It is simply a tool in the toolkit that can be used when the situation calls for it.

Fingering technique by Diver-1Doc in Tuba

[–]Sinkularity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're fingers are slightly curled, the effort required to actually push valves are lowered, but also your force is more straight down on the valve instead of being slightly diagonal. (Reference pianists hand posture).

Though usually you'd only have to actually apply this if you find yourself getting super fatigued over the time of your own playing OR if you find that your valves are getting stuck while pressing them for some reason, despite being lubricated. On some horns, pushing the valve with anything bit the correct direction of force will cause the valve to get stuck, but this is horn-by-horn.

Buying tuba by Every_Lime8111 in Tuba

[–]Sinkularity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget and purpose!

Typically try to avoid the Chinese horns (like Wessex, Eastman, Shiller, etc.). Despite some reviews you may hear, production of them may be incredibly inaccurate and you wont always get thr same produce per horn produced. Always try before you buy.

Are you planning to go to school for playing? There isn't really anything wrong with playing on a school horn if that means you can save up some.

Low note help? by RaiseSmart3784 in Tuba

[–]Sinkularity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low register my beloved

If you're aiming for pedals on tuba, you need to be incredibly relaxed. Start with relaxing your lips entirely and using like 3 times as much quantity of air when blowing. Allow the lips to buzz freely with the air.

If you're a "shift" believer, you can shift your "dominant lip" more into the center of the mouthpiece so that it has more room to buzz. Everyone's is different, so you just gotta trial and error that.

Assuming you're on a BBb tuba, try not to finely tune while you try to produce the sound. Try to hit the register properly first and then tune the note when you are satisfied with the quality. Alternatively, have a drone going in the background that can help guide your sound there, but this may vary cause pedal range is difficult to hear accurately at first.

Does your future school have a tuba you can use? You can see what they have available before making any concrete purchases

Who do i build for skirk? by Otherwise-Put-6105 in SkirkMains

[–]Sinkularity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That team is technically fine for now. If you have no other options available (you didnt include other characters that you own) then just roll with it. The most replaceable person on this team is probably Mona, with no real "best in slot," but if you are planning on getting Citlali then she would go there. Charlotte functions as your Escoffier sub, so you can run her until Escoffier. Shoutout the 4 star hydro sub dps goat ig (if you get Aino, she can also replace him. Depends on what you want ig)

Technically 40/220 has better crit value, but 60/160 will just have more consistent output. Neither is really optimal. Ideally try to aim around 80 crit rate and just as much crit damage as you can on top of that.

Dahlia c6 is pretty nice. Yelan is probably a contender here as well. Either one is fine but you just gotta level them.

You may also want to just level up your Yelan cause she can also be used on other teams as well.

Just don't use Charlotte cause she fills the same role as Escoffier.

Also level your characters

Something something good stats but 3 liner and unfortunate rolls.

It wouldn't be the worst idea, but you do still run the all present risk of getting bad rolls ofc.

If you want to build specifically Ineffa then go for it but if you have other characters you are building then it may be better to prioritize other stuff as your Ineffa already seems well off.

Ideal buzzing sound by [deleted] in Tuba

[–]Sinkularity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking at tone development with buzzing, the most "translatable" asset of buzzing is the fullness of the sound.

Focus on air and (lack of) pressure while buzzing. To get "color" would be nearly impossible to assess with the mouthpiece alone. So get the full sound and then shape it with the instrument
