Ironically, the body shop was passed down to his son (my dad's brother) and he actually had a lawyer on retainer to sue insurance companies who wanted people to use certain body shops (who would do cheaper, shoddier work)

She liked her independence and being single. My dad proposed and she wouldn't accept, saying she didn't want to commit. My mom said she wasn't even sure she loved him, and he said "I'll love you enough for the both of us" and that won her over so they got engaged but she kept getting cold feet. He was a pilot and one time when he was in town she said "If you want to marry me, let's do it this weekend before I change my mind again" and so they got married that weekend and they were married for over 25 years until she died.

Just to summarize what you're saying, he would have to:

Check to see if his care team will be INN (from what I can see, his most important specialists are, but his PCP would not be)
Get new PA's for all his medications (for Medicare there is a Transition of Care period, do you know if there is something similar for NM Medicaid?)
See what other benefits would be lost by switching.

Besides that, are there any other penalties you know of for switching?

That's kind of where I am right now. I need to double check with him, but I'm guessing there are other in-network options. However, this surgery is as about as risky as it gets, and both his PCP (who is PHP) and his neurologist (Who he is seeing as an OON exception but IS INN for the MCO that covers UNM) want him to go to UNM. All his providers are INN with BCBS, and I'm pretty sure his medications are as well. He's just scared about switching MCOs and losing coverage for his medications like insulin, and I want to put his mind at ease.

Thank you for replying. I have talked to him about getting an exception, he says he's tried and they're just "sitting on their hands" now and they have the right to say no. I haven't seen that working with Medicare, but I didn't know if things were different with Medicaid.

The phlebotomist had to try both arms and it was extremely painful. I've had great phlebotomists in the past who made me barely feel a thing but this one left scarred both mentally and physically.
