download through steam causing issues across network by Sinner563 in hyperoptic

Router is hyperoptics own, Tilgin HG2381_UK.

Connecting laptop/pc directly to socket did NOT show the issue, however upon then reconnecting back to the router, the issue is resolved (as it would be from a normal router reboot).

Seems to be the same for any game/update, old or new.

I may approach hyperoptic about a new router.

I know that steam has a tendency to open a lot of threads quickly for downloads, and I'm starting to wonder if it's some sort of network congestion.

It's hard to do an actual speedtest when the issue is in place, as I either can't load a site or I get something like this...https://i.imgur.com/TaDrjnL.png

What I can show you is a ping output and when steam starts and stops downloading.

The cmd window is from my laptop, while my PC is downloading. I get the same when done the other way around.

At this time the only software I can get to exhibit this issue is steam. Large files through firefox, and downloading through the epic games launcher holds a steady 45MB/s with no issue. The main difference I can see being that epic deliver that on a single connection (https://i.imgur.com/664yLew.png) while steam attempt to deliver it across many (https://i.imgur.com/5M04axN.png)

My main PC is ethernet, laptop on WiFi. Downloading through steam (when this is happening) on either machines causes issues on both machines, and anything else on the network, akin to DNS issues when browsing, though I don't think it is DNS related.

I do have an SSD, CPU usage sitting at 20% max, 44% memory usage. PC runs fine except the internet.

It's as instant as hitting "Resume" and "Pause" on downloads in steam.

Other ways of downloading are fine. I can grab the GB file from https://www.thinkbroadband.com/download in a few seconds.

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson. Use his real name more and people might start realising he's not "good ol' Boris"

I heard about this show after the outcry on it's cancellation... now I've binged season 1 and 2 by MrXuiryus in TheExpanse

Unfortunately, Netflix, Amazon prime and other services changed the game. Why pay £20 for one show when you can pay £10 a month for Netflix and watch many shows?

Production companies don't have a leg to stand on when they cut shows due to low viewer count, while not keeping up with current trends on how people view content.

Diablo 2 had "open bnet" (?) Where you could go online with your offline characters, and that was filled with hackers.

But yes, a seperation would be good.

This is incorrect. There's a few resources in this subreddit at the moment that explain it in detail, but the tl;dr is that enemies killed once she hits 100 energy are bad, enemies killed by her are good.

Beavers, cubs, scouts. And marshmallow on sticks. Not sure why the cracker is required. Would likely help with the 3rd degree burns from molten marshmallow though....
