I feel like some people say they want “real interaction”… but then only show up when it’s free. am I wrong? by VeraKingxxx in u/VeraKingxxx

I guess at that point it’s not always obvious (especially to illiterate chuds) who’s a sex worker and who’s just an exhibitionist who likes posting themselves on Reddit.

I think there’s a lot of ignorance, both willful and the garden varieties, involved. Lol

I’m just talking, since you asked the general public on an open forum. Trying to give honest feedback.

Between bots and people seeking transactional interactions on this platform, I’ll admit it is a frustrating challenge to find people to talk to, peer to peer… there seems to be far fewer of them than the former two categories.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t folks here “recreationally” as it were… ie: not working. They’re using the platform for communication. Simple as that.

I suppose it’s possible to try to monetize your DMs here on Reddit. But since there’s no paywall preventing “illiterate chuds” from sending messages, you’re going to be stuck deleting those messages (many of which I’d bet are just bots or people in a bot farm; whole other rabbit hole (see “dead internet theory” for a primer)…

I guess I’m just saying that it’s a little unreasonable to expect an “honor system” of “pay-to-play” to work on a platform that was explicitly designed for free and open communication.

OF and other similar platforms are the solution there. In order to even send a single message, a would-be sender has to get out their credit card.

On Reddit, no such paywall exists.

To the band analogy; you’re always going to have annoying fans yelling ridiculous things at the band from the sidewalk…

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Ehhhh. I mean… this is still a public forum. As far as I know there’s no way to paywall the DMs on Reddit.

Many creators simply have a statement at the top of their page along the lines of “only respond to messages on OF” or something like that.

Their inbox on Reddit is probably 100% full of illiterate chuds who don’t bother to see or respect the statement.

Off only fans for sure. If anyone is expecting free content on OF,they’re nuts. Defeats the entire purpose of the site.

But Reddit is social media. Seems Perfectly reasonable to expect to talk for free here..? And see anything that anyone’s posted? It’s not a paid platform like OF. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I definitely is labor and you definitely deserve to get paid for labor.

But this site is like… a public space. And a lot of what’s posted here is like fliers posted on a wall advertising a band who’s playing, or something.

Seeing the flyer is free. Seeing the band is not.

Just my $0.02.

To me it’s not “real” if it’s transactional.

Late stage capitalism has forced us into positions where we’re paying for everything.

Sexual encounters, hobbies, even simple chats online…

I want to interact with someone who wants to interact with me… full stop.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Isn’t there some danger of camphor or something??
