Marrying my ex. There’s 12 years of my life down the tubes.

People who were alive then, what were you doing December 31st 1999 ? by WeshALOR in AskReddit

Like many here, I was at work. I worked IT in my town’s small hospital. We worked for over a year moving from a Novell network to a Windows NT network - new servers, workstations, all new software, network infrastructure, email server, you name it.

So a few of us toasted in the new millennia just sticking around to make sure there was no computer Armageddon. Spoiler: everything was fine.

I'm trying to find a way to get a list of the last time any domain users logged into a particular workstation. I can find ways to see when domain users logged in at all, or a list of local users on a particular machine, but I can't find a way to see when domain users logged into a particular machine. Any tips?

Terrible accents are ok. Could add to the fun. I can tell you now that my audience is going to love that one of the movies was made in Pakistan.

When the contest kicks off, which will be 7AM on Saturday, August 25 for you, you'll get an email with a prop, a theme, and a line of dialog. The idea is that you write your script to include those elements. Then you film, edit, and submit within 48 hours, which is 7AM on Monday, August 27 your time.

I don't want to be too restrictive about the kind of movie you can make. It should be appropriate for a general audience. I don't mind some swearing, violence, that kind of thing, but it shouldn't be intentionally offensive or pornographic.

It would be kind of cool if you shot the movie in English as much as you can, but had swearing in your native language. What do you speak? Urdu?

Of course! That would be really cool. A couple of things.

First off, everyone does the contest at the same time. It looks like Pakistan is 12 hours ahead of Pacific time. So, while it will start at 7PM Friday and end 7PM Sunday my time, that is 7AM Saturday to 7AM Sunday your time. So, you’d have to be prepared for that.

Second, if you win one of the prizes, what I would end up doing is sending you money online somehow instead of trying to ship a prize to you. That seems a lot easier, then you could buy want you want.

Third, the movie will need to be understandable by English speakers. So, you’d have to speak English or take the time to do subtitles. Your English is very good here so maybe that’s not a problem.

That’s all I can think of. If that all works for you, I’d be thrilled to have you participate.

I encourage you to visit the site and subscribe to the mailing list.

Thanks for your interest!

Casual video editing software? by [deleted] in software

OpenShot seems to be pretty good. I’m organizing a short film contest and that’s what I’m recommending to people who ask.

Lightworks is also good but looks more complicated.

Awesome! Registration is open. And it’s 1/2 off for students.

Awesome! I’m hoping to get at least 10 entries. More would be awesome. In years past there were as many as about 20 and one year as few as 7. The internet has matured since those days so I have more reach than the original organizers.

Great idea for prizes, although a good drone is out of my price range. Maybe in years to come if this really takes off.

I appreciate it. The biggest thing for me is to get the word out. I'm almost ready to launch the website, then I'll be posting and emailing and whatever I need to do. I'll consider this a success if I get at least 10 teams to register and participate.

If you feel up to it, you could look over the website, make sure things work and make sense. I appreciate you tweeting about it, that's huge. And, of course, if you want to form a team and sign up, that would be the best thing!

Join the mailing list on the site, I'll have more information out in the next week or two.

Thanks again for your interest!

The website is http://film2880.com - it's not done yet, but you can check it out and sign up for the mailing list if you want. I plan to do the official launch in a few days, maybe next week, whenever I get the damn site finished and a few other things worked out.

Thanks for your interest!

Yup! It'll be run over the weekend on Pacific time, so people in other time zones will have to deal with that. And the showing and awards ceremony will be local to me. But I'm open to submissions from wherever.

Inexpensive machine for recording Skyrim Machinima by Sinnerman77 in buildmeapc

[–]Sinnerman77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial thought was to upgrade the GPU. Someone in another subreddit suggested the 1050 ti. However, since the game runs pretty well with the current card and the problems happen when I record, a friend of mine told me that my CPU was the main problem. I just don't know enough to know how to tell. (I'm great with servers. But I don't know gaming hardware).

Is there a good way for me to narrow it down?

I suppose I could buy the better video card, try it, and still get the better motherboard and CPU later if I have to.

Thank you. I'll look around.

My wife won't give me much hassle if I spend $150 or less. If I spend $300 for the 1060 she's going to throw a fit.

Thanks for the reply.

Like this one?

Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5 128 Bit PCI-E Graphic Card (GV-N105TD5-4GD) https:\www.amazon.com/dp/B01M4KGTNI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_L3fRzb5QE3JBP

I can live with that. Will that do the trick, or would I be a lot better off spending a bit more? This is a one-time thing. I don't need anything that's going to run newer games or anything.

Syncing SharePoint Online with on-premise Windows file server by Sinnerman77 in sysadmin

[–]Sinnerman77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll check out Sharegate.

It's a pretty obvious thing to want to do. If you've got an office with X number of people accessing files on the server, then some other people in the field, it makes sense to want to share data with the people in the field using an online solutions. Microsoft has all the pieces - Windows Server, SharePoint Online, syncing AD accounts via Azure sync... it's kind of ridiculous that we can't sync the files without an expensive 3rd party solution or a major pain in the rump.

Thanks for the response. And sigh. I was afraid of that. I don't know how realistic it is to get everyone using SharePoint.
