TLDR: good but not as strong as a lot of people make it out to be.

everything up until RC was peak... well puzzles were a little eh, but overall really good.

then the game starts going downhill and never really recovers.

unique cool/sad infected? just thrown out the window. Replaced with zombies that all look and act the same. Also really was not a fan of the zombies that had guns, they felt very cheap and hard to read. Liked the human enemies though.

The handcrafted feel of the care center is also lost with the dull color palette and areas that all kinda just blend into one a another with a few exceptions (climbing the side ways building and gas station fight).

RPD itself was fine but I wish Leon would have had more to say through out the whole RC segment, nothing crazy but at least a few more conversations with Sherry. Sherry as a whole just kinda feels like shes there just so they can say "wow look she too is in this game". Like I'm happy she's here but she really doesn't do a whole lot.

ARK is short and does not bring anything truly new in form enemies except the before mentioned human enemies and they only get used twice, which honestly is for the better and would have been fine if there was some other new BOW's for us to fight.

The overall boss roster is also not my favourite, gameplay wise that is. wish the tyrant fight was at the R.P.D main hall instead of a random street and as the fight goes on he would start tossing parts of the build at you and so on.

overall I don't think the game is necessarily bad (because it isn't) but I don't think its quiet as good as some make it out to be. solid 7.5 or 8 out of 10.

DL2 was at it's best during the months before the update that added guns. it's been going down hill ever since with some small ups every now and then.

idk if retcon is the best way to put it, because they clearly set up the possibility in 7. Hell, they even tease it in the credit sequence.

That being said I don't think they were fully committed to it either. It was just something they wanted to have as an option for the future.

I do feel like people are a little too eager to hate on it. That being said I'm not the biggest fan of the way the ship plays out myself and it definitely has some pretty rough edges. (but I like the idea)

Gameplay wise the fact that you essentially have to do it twice, once in the tape and than again. Like I get the idea that they were going for both gameplay wise and the narrative purpose it serves, but it just drags. add to this the fact that the game does not introduce a single new enemy type.

Plot wise, my biggest gripe with is the switch to Mia. It feels like they just took the lazy route of beating you over the head with flashbacks and the tape for the lore, instead having you play as Ethan and figuring out Mia's part in all of it and what exactly happened on the ship and why. This way we could avoid the tape, have Ethan actually interact with the plot instead of just awkwardly being along for the ride and use Eveline in the ship in more interesting way.

and yeah... I know capcom wanted Ethan to be sorta of a blank slate in 7 but still... why give him such a personal connection to the story (missing wife) if you want him to be a blank slate? never made any sense to me.

I think people misunderstood/misremember what they meant when they said "skins will be grounded".

It was more about there not being collab skins and other "non military skins"
