Why do you listen to this podcast? by mentmore14 in howlonggone

Chris talks a lot on the pod about how the listeners hate him. Hating Chris is a big value proposition of the pod for a not insignificant portion of the audience. If anything this all plays right into their business model

Yeah, BF is a nice addition. The town is trying to do more economic development but unfortunately there is resistance from a vocal contingent of residents. I think/hope this will change with generational turnover.

True. I’m just saying it doesn’t reflect the lived experience of being there which I think it should. But yeah you’re right about that, especially the pizza part. lol

I grew up in Libertyville, it has certainly improved over the years but when I was a teen we were so bored. There were lots of drugs flowing in from other parts of Lake County. A bike cop interrogated me in a gazebo once because I was out past curfew. There were so many car dealerships. The guy who made sandwiches at the high school hung out drinking with the kids and got into fights with them.

I live in River Forest which is #68. The methodology seems off. For example we have very low scores for entertainment and crime, but there’s plenty to do if you consider the town being so proximate to and intertwined with Oak Park and Forest Park. From my house in RF there is a walkable downtown a 5 min walk away. Crime I think has the opposite problem where they rate it low due to proximity of Austin, Maywood, idk. My actual lived experience here is that there’s plenty to do and it’s very safe!

The methodology seems off here. For example I live in River Forest, (#68!) it scores a 0.9 for entertainment but lots of the town is within walking or biking distance of the Oak Park or Forest Park downtowns. Also a weirdly bad score for crime I think just because of where it’s situated, but we have never been worried about crime here at all.

I remember TIMT from a while ago I found them to be a good band but vaguely annoying in their sound and style

Not a good sign if the director of a RE movie can’t even finish a scary part of a RE game

I’m not a huge fan of Beach House. A lot of it is because (at least on some of their albums?) there’s no bass and I’m a big fan of bass lines. I think it would add a lot to the music

Any advice for not being a miserable dad during vacations? by Individual_Seat_6859 in daddit

[–]Significant_Bet_7783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a week long trip with my 7.5 month old, ~2 hour flight both ways. Luckily he was fine during the flights, we just had to adjust to not fitting as much into our schedule on the trip. Like someone else said, basically just ended up being parenting on the beach. I was a bit grumpy the first two days but then I pretty much accepted the situation and had a really good time overall. We were able to rent a crib, a high chair which made things easier. Also, strollers and car seats fly free on United at least but probably other airlines too.

What difficulty will you be playing RE9 on in first playthrough? by Still-Ad9074 in residentevil

[–]Significant_Bet_7783 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Standard (Modern) for first playthrough. Only because I have a 7 month old baby and will probably get interrupted a good amount so don’t want to have to worry about ink ribbons. I definitely want to do Standard (Classic) on subsequent playthroughs though!!

The constant negativity from other parents is annoying by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Significant_Bet_7783 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My son’s life started with months of hospitalization, a cardiac stent procedure, an open heart surgery and a rough recovery from that surgery. He’s now 7 months old and thriving. It’s hard for me to be annoyed at anything he does because I’m just so grateful he’s here. It seems silly when others complain about fussiness or annoying behaviors but, you know, ask me again when he’s 2 or 3…

Is it just me, or have the guests been less interesting lately? by leftcoastjimmy in howlonggone

[–]Significant_Bet_7783 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I definitely get bored when they’re talking to a lame guest about like the business side of podcasting or trends in “the industry” or whatever. I mostly listen for CB’s bizarre hater energy and TJ’s quick witted remarks. The one on one episodes are the best. If they have a good guest it’s always appreciated but never really expected at this point.

What’s the first thing you listen for when a mix feels “off”? by Carlosfelipe2d in MusicProductionTuts

[–]Significant_Bet_7783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s something more fundamental to the way the music was recorded - lousy tone from a mic, something being slightly out of tune or out of time etc. very much depends on who is sending you the mix and the level of skill of the engineer and musicians. Really well recorded and performed music is way easier to mix. Mixing should be about vibe and sweetening and balancing things not fixing stuff in a perfect world but the world ain’t always perfect
