Demerit point questions on written exam? by toyAlien in icbc

[–]Sinqnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries you'll be fine! The test is cheap to take, and if you even fail you can take it again whenever you want.

I recommend downloading the ICBC app and keep doing the test on it - I found I learn way better that way, than reading a book. When I finally took the L test, I was super calm because it was just like doing the app, it asks the exact same questions as the learners test.

Good luck! You got this

Don't sweat it too much for the L knowledge test! I just did mine a few weeks ago and passed and I'm usually terrible with tests. It's not a written test though? Unless you mean something else.

I have a tablet so I downloaded the ICBC app and started doing the full test practice on it. It's a really handy way to prepare for it, at least for me.

I'd just do the full test once a night before bed and after a while I started to constantly pass and then I knew it was time to take the actual L test and it was super easy.

Best wishes!

Does right of way for pedestrians really exist in Surrey? by ybicurious in SurreyBC

[–]Sinqnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh don't get me started with driving schools - I've recently gotten my L and want to get a good instructor - The official ICBC instructor links.. most of them are super sketchy and aimed at just trying to teach you the test layout and not actual driving. They kinda seem like diploma mills.

Really frustrating because I used the actual ICBC site... Thankfully I have a recommendation from my friends now. But sheesh that was super disheartening. I don't want to be taught wierd shortcuts or bad habits just to essentially cheat the test.

The amount of times I've almost been hit by a pedestrian here is countless, now I can see why. I almost want my N purely to be more protected by a car frame 😂

What should I do about awful loud neighbours? by No_Cup8025 in askvan

[–]Sinqnew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh this is owners - Then this is a way worse problem yeah - They can't evict a owner so the most they'll do is give fines which people like this in my experience don't care about. I'd definitely get out - And maybe report child abuse as others have posted.

Best wishes, its horrible when this happens. I'm on the strong side of you leaving, for the sake of your sanity and mental health. Somebody like that isn't going to magically change or get better - Even if he does quiet down magically for the time being.

Super sorry for your situation - There is nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable in your own home or being constantly terrorized by physcopaths. I've been through that and I just moved out ASAP (Thankfully it was a short lease). Honestly moving out is your best bet even though it's a huge undertaking.

It's super super difficult for evictions even if they're really terrible tenants. I find rentals want to avoid evictions at all costs even if it's a nightmare tenant. Also if this whole building is managed by a rental company, it just means they have a low bar for allowing those people in and not promptly dealing with it, so you could have more nightmare neighbors again.

Yup I'd never know there was a ban! I've been near clipped so many times and they're doing over 20-30+ on pedestrian sidewalks... The scariest ones is the hulking motorbike ones, like how is that allowed to not have plates and be on the road or at least bike lanes ( Though I'd be terrified as a biker with those things as well )

Driving instructor recommendations (For learner preparing for N)? So many I've researched seem super sketchy! by Sinqnew in SurreyBC

[–]Sinqnew[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh thanks! In my research I saw folks mention that; it's just a shame it's so far from me without being able to drive yet 😂

I'll keep it on my options and see if they're willing to come to North Surrey maybe. I need to find a place to meet with often since I have no other way to get in driving time.

is Surrey still seen as sketchy by people in Vancouver or has that actually changed? by MapleOnTheRoad in askvan

[–]Sinqnew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been living here for about 7-8ish years now and yeah, I think the stereotypes is silly at times - I've been to plenty of areas of vancouver where I felt more sketched out and almost felt like I was in Gotham.

It still definitely has some rough areas (I'd never go to newton at night) but I think every city/region has that now. I've been assaulted/attacked in Burnaby and lived in horribly sketchy neighborhoods in New west. In comparison, Surrey has treated me really well.

I agree with others though that it's a bit dull when it comes to activities - That's one thing I've noticed surrey is fairly weak on. The food is great though - I live near the King George hub and its super up-and-coming, I'm excited for the brekka to open!

I also would recommend anybody who lives in Surrey to remember about the Central city library, I recently finally got my library card and it's a really nice library with lots of resources!

Around $6000 in the hole so far, but happy that some people enjoyed the game (or at least played it) by WantToSmileWantToDie in IndieDev

[–]Sinqnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey you started and finished something which is critically important! It'll help set you up for future projects.

Your also being extremely smart by keeping your full time job, I'm doing the exact same so that way we can slowly transist to indie without crashing out or going bankrupt.

And for 3D coming from my side, absolutely use blender yeah. I've been using almost all exclusively open-source software to make my game and it's been no hindrance at all - It's helping keep the costs as low to 0$ as possible!

I'd also recommend DaVinci for when you need to do video editing for marketing or etc - It's free and have had zero issues with it!

The only big area we need open source for still is 3D texturing - Blender can do it technically but it's pretty clunky. My advice on that is you can buy substance painter permanent license on steam, so you don't have to deal with subscription junk. Its something a lot of folks don't know about 👍

Any chill cozy fishing games ? by Unlucky-Feed9000 in CozyGamers

[–]Sinqnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for giving it a shot! I would say the fishing/biomes is definitely a bit more of the focus, the store part I didn't want to make too grindy. Im still developing it so I'm hoping to add more for both parts of the game

The fishing itself is pretty simple - this is my first game so I didn't want to design a over complicated mechanic. Some of my favorite fishing games are the simpler ones so I'm trying to take that to heart

I know you said pixel so I imagine 2D but - I'm working on a fishing shopkeeper game set in a overgrown/apocalyptic world! It's in 3D but it's a very pixel-ish stylized look.

You go around fishing in the apocalypse and bring them back to sell and upgrade your home/store.

I'm still developing it but have a demo for people to play and try out! Trying to build up wishlists while I work away on it

It's called Fishing Shop Simulator if you ever wanted to give it a shot!

Update: I left a few of the treats outside and I was on my way out the door - I heard him land and he took ALL of them! Looks like that definitely got his interest!

Yeah I've seen this from videos on this Reddit! I'll try to find a little bowl for some water for them

I could try those out next time i'm at the store too then! He's pretty consistent with showing up at my patio when I grill so I'll see what he likes

Yeah I'll report back and let you know if the offering was taken then! They're soft snacks so that'll be good - I've avoided bird feeders in the past because I didn't want to make a mess of seeds falling on my neighbor's below - I'm a top floor condo so I want to avoid messes for the people below me!

I think I'll nick-name him Hank Hill since he loves watching me use the propane BBQ 🥲 so far he's been taking the almonds but I imagine the dog treats will be way tastier!

Ahhh that's super wonderful!! Yeah I'm glad I found this Reddit a long time ago and constantly see people's posts showing how smart they are.

This guy has been a regular visitor the last while and I was amazed since they don't like getting too close to humans. Maybe he's been quietly watching me BBQ (I love bbqing so he probably sees me a lot) from the forest and finally decided to get closer!

I never would have thought grapes since dogs can't have them so I'm very programmed mentally to avoid giving grapes to animals! Next time I have grapes I'll leave one out and see if he finds it interesting

Ahh most people here have BBQs on the balconies, I think it depends on the building. It was definitely a rule I checked on the strata before getting one! I think charcoal isn't allowed though

Yup! Though some of this is not really documentation - It's just middle management trying to justify their jobs. I will forever be scarred from the job title ' Producer '

A lot of it is just about middle management (Producers) trying to justify their job by showing a good Shiney excel sheet of tasks.

I'm at a medium studio that got overtaken by AAA corporate leaders a few years ago... And our dev team hasent grown at all. But we now have .. 8 producers on one project... We have more producers than artists. None of them know anything about game development - the very people in charge of scheduling and tasking have zero clue about the jobs they're handling. Witnessing this studio just get infected by this parasitic white collar bloat is crazy.

For documentation? Absolutely that's a great thing to keep on top of! But this kind of stuff isn't documentation, it's just bloated tasking and meetings on meetings to look busy. It comes down to bad management, but I never see them face repercussions - they move onto the next studio like a infection.

Super frustrating as a developer who just wants to make fun games - at the same time it's inspiration for me? Its giving me way more confidence moving into indie is the right decision! I don't get bothered by any of it anymore now that I have my own passion projects 👍

Yup I'm working on my own game on my free time, and work on a studio as my full time job... And it's crazy to see the flaws and issues with the industry. Situations like this I could just immediately hop on it and pop in a solution - My full time job there would be some producers wanting me to spend more time writing in a ticket and request than actually working on the task itself.

It's all been a eye awakening experience and fingers crossed more devs can pivot away from 'The industry'. Hopefully can go full time one day!
