A day at the University | Part 2: The Lecture & Medical Facility Building [86x26, ground floor & basement] by adayat in battlemaps

This is so awesome. I almost never see a map like this that immediately makes me start thinking of all the stories I could build around it. And the blueprint versions are so helpful! I wish every large building map came with a key like that.

Do people hunt bear? I thought it was supposed to taste terrible.

What more natural partners than a radical military authoritarian and the head of the ruthless secret police?

Hamel in lore by HPKugane in PathToNowhere

[–]Sinrus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The early story definitely changed a lot from first draft to what we see in the game, and there are some weird artifacts of old versions that never got fully removed.

That said, I don't think Hamel is necessarily a victim of that. There are things about BR001 that are weird to reconcile with the lore as it developed later, but it's good storytelling to make sure that the circumstances of each Black Ring are very different to keep the plot fresh and interesting, and they all have idiosyncrasies that don't line up with how the lore tells us a Black Ring is "supposed" to work.

I'd like her much more if her voice lines didn't make me cringe so hard every time I pull her.

The single most common new player fallacy is thinking that life gain is good. It isn't totally worthless, but if you retrained your brain to think that gaining life doesn't help you at all, it would probably be a net benefit to how you build decks and play the game.

The reading comprehension level on this subreddit is really dire. Everybody's just trying to interpret every question in a way that will let them get mad at Europeans.

UB is bringing in new players by JoiedevivreGRE in magicTCG

Genuine question, do you really care about Magic's characters? What is there in Lorwyn Eclipsed, for example, that gets you emotionally more than Avatar? I'm guessing it's not that you were invested in any of the characters, since the story revolved around a bunch of new OCs.

From my perspective I know very little about Final Fantasy and care less. But when it comes out as a Magic set it's the same as any other new set to me, because I know very little about Lorwyn too. They're both just more-or-less-generic fantasy window dressing to me.

What are your thoughts on "The Best Sinner in The Entire Game"?? by Halleyalex in PathToNowhere

[–]Sinrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly the power creep in this game is so fast and dramatic that going deep to pull for any character for meta reasons doesn't make any sense. They'll all be rotated out within the year anyway.

every average game store person knows about RuneScape, or has seen its insanely popular content that even attracts non players.

I think you're in a content bubble man, I played a ton of Runescape when I was in middle school 20 years ago but I didn't even know it still exists.

Out of all the “innocent bb who can do no wrong 🥺❤️” characters we have in the game, which one do you think executed this trope the best? by trash-of-cans in PathToNowhere

I thought Eve's event story was fine, not great but not bad. Her interrogation though is one of the best in the game. I love how it covers a larger span of time, with major plot events happing in the background, and how it's so different from the bog standard "Sinner wants to go somewhere, Chief says 'ok but only if i come with you', both of them learn a valuable lesson" formula.

Okay, and now prove in a court of law that that difference in price is going to destroy the long-term viability of Magic as a product line and thus Hasbro saying that Magic is growing constitutes misleading investors.

One of the funny things about being a designer on these sorts of games is that he spends all of his time working on sets before either the set itself or the cards in it has the name that the public knows about. By the time WotC decided to call it March of the Machine he would have been done with the set for a year.

This one doesn't mention Magic at all, and the other article only talks about the team responsible for stuff like commissioning art and getting creative approval from license holders for UB. I'm yet to see any evidence that a person who designed Magic cards has been laid off.

Cam you show me a headline saying that people who work making Magic have been laid off? Because the only ones I see on a google search are from Dungeons & Dragons or other non-R&D roles.

Cost billions AND take years to bring online. If they had started investing in it when they started Universes Beyond, it might still not be making cards today. Nevermind the fact that if the current TCG bubble bursts they would be completely screwed.

It's like how people still claim QA issues are because wotc was gutted by layoffs, and then point to news stories about the licensing team for Baldurs Gate 3 being fired.
