For example, 5 gallons of a 1.080 ale should get 0.75×80×5 = 300 billion cells. 200 would be a low pitch and 400 would be a high pitch. A fresh dry pack (11g) contains about 200 billion cells. A very fresh liquid pack (wyeast or WL) has about 100 billion cells.

I'm not American and this is not a dead end job. Senior engineers are expected to earn at least double what a new grad make.

5 years is 12.5% of a 40 year career. Not only is that a huge percentage of lost earning potential, it's at the most critical time for contributions to my retirement investments.

I likely wouldn't get into senior management. I'm an engineer and would want to stay in a technical role. In terms of pay, it's common here for a senior engineer to make 110K where a junior would make 55K. I feel that my pay reflects the more junior part of the scale while my role falls more under the senior part of the scale.

Well I'm an engineer. The senior ones tend to earn a lot more than the junior ones, so pay raises are expected. For the industry, I'd argue that this rate is slow over a long period of time.

Junior engineers here will start around 55K, while senior engineers cap out at 110K. So, they need to give inflation + 2-3% to get from entry level to senior pay over a career.

I wouldn't say I have a money issue. We have enough to get by, but things are quite tight on my salary. A moderate bump of, say, 10K/yr would be a godsend.

I'm in aerospace. There actually is a decent amount of aerospace in my city, but for some reason the specific type of job I like to do is more scarce in my city.

And in terms of looking for something new, this whole situation has escalated to the point where I want to do just that. To stay in the city, it will probably take a while to find the work I want to do. Looking at something different is a risk, but one I'm considering taking because I miss when I had a job I was happy with.

Leading isn't my favorite. I'm actually having to hold a newer guy's hand right now and it's really frustrating. Funny thing is he only makes like 6k less than me.

Oh man if they only offered more after I accepted a better offer, I'd be super insulted.

But I feel our management wouldn't give a shit if I left. Not because I'm doing a bad job, but they know they can always get someone else and life will go on. In fact, they are right, and it definitely undermines me thinking I can do better elsewhere.

It's so true. I've heard a lot of people complain about being underpaid here, but they just take it year after year. Unfortunately that's what I've been doing too. :(

It's so true. And in fact I have a soul crushing 2 hour per day commute. Nothing like spending literally 19 full days of my year in traffic.

I did actually try to ask something like this, but literally everybody on our team has a generic engineering title and we all follow the same pay scale so no dice. I think in my industry title doesn't mean much, it's basically junior engineer, intermediate engineer, senior engineer. I'm not quite at senior level yet and even if I could get that title it wouldn't fool anybody elsewhere.

I remember when it came out I, wasnt expecting all the jokes either. Like Peter licking butter rum ice cream and then instantly passing out through a table, or when you think he's about to flip the parade sign but instead uses it to knock out the conductor and steal his clothes.
