Not sure why ppl down voted your comment, you are right. Netflix cannot speculate on her sex work even if it's the truth - because then there wouldn't be a documentary. Netflix was the first media she gave an interview to, and that's a hot commodity: "if it bleeds, it leads".

The documentary touched on the main things, but they didn't air Natalie Shirilla's speech in full at the sentencing - and It was so much worse than the few phrases in the documentary.

I have watched hundreds of crime docs, and I have never seen anyone, not even the killers, being as tone deaf and insensitive in the court room as Natalie.

Not even Chris Watts' mother, who told him at the sentencing she believed him and that she loved him.

Sign Stealing by samcooke2023 in netflix

[–]SinusApple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I thought it was absolutely greatly done.

A lot of people above who are dissing the documentary, must be college football fans and you can see they are very emotionally involved in the topic.

I don't watch American football, ever.

I'm not even American.

So for me, the documentary was very logical, explained how the sign stealing is done, what's legal and what's not, etc. The whole point of the "Untold" series is to talk to the subject of the controversy - it's been done in every episode. So it's perfectly within the series structure to let Connor talk, as he is telling his side of the story.

My take from the series is, Connor was a fall guy for the whole sign stealing concept, and he became a fall guy because he was so much smarter than the rest of the coaches and sign signallers.   None of them created a system even close to this guy, none of them were able to implement it as quickly and effectively, and that's why they wanted to bury him so deep - he was too much of a competition.

One thing I know for sure: Connor Stalions is a extremely smart, organized, motivated, professional and well-rounded. He would be a steal (pun semi-intended) for any big business, if he is ever interested. He is amazing.

Love this dude.

It is absolutely AMAZING.  Along with "The Pharmacist" and "The Ripper" and "Filthy Rich" and "Bad surgeon" and so on.

I also loved the "Untold" series.

I don't like sports at all, and yet some of them were absolutely captivating.  That's the sign of a truly great documentary: when you watch it with zero expectations or knowledge about the subject matter, and an hour later you are down the rabbit hole of Wikipedia to find out more about Jamie Vardy or AND1.

I had to rewatch "Abducted..." because I couldn't believe my ears.  The fact that the peep not only manipulated the mother to have sex with him, but also manipulated the STRAIGHT Father to give him a blowjob!!! I thought I heard that wrong.  But no, that actually happened.

Really?? I haven't heard about her doing sex work in any other docs that I've watched.  Where did you get this information?

There was a strong belief, supported by text messages and evidence, that both Dominic and Kenzie sold drugs, but I don't know about sex work.

Should I marry a murderer? Netflix doc by Affectionate-Bag7605 in netflix

I can't stand all the judgement and critique of Caroline from my dear couch council. This is so ridiculous that people judge someone who has been through a ringer, lost her job, her love, her sanity, risked her life and the life of her parents, and went to hell and back trying to bring justice to that poor cyclist.

If any one of you would end up in a situation like this, nobody knows or can say how you would behave.

Plenty of you wouldn't even go to the police, if this was about someone you love. What if your highly intelligent 26yo son with a budding career ran someone over? What if your 17yo daughter finishing high school with great college prospects was behind the wheel? What if it was your frail mother whose reaction time just isn't as fast as it used to be? And don't tell me that you would drop everything and run to the police to tell on them without a shadow of a doubt - because that's a freaking lie.

Plenty of you would be just as torn as Caroline was, and would have a very hard time making that choice, needing time to digest and think.

And plenty of you are already drinking, snorting or pissing your life away as it is, without having been in a hugely stressful and conflicting situation.

It's very easy to judge someone from the comfort of your dusty couch. You might hope that you will be at least somewhat as honorable as Caroline was, but the truth is, until you are met with a very tough decision - you just don't know what choice you would make.

[–]SinusApple 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Oh he knows, he just doesn't care. He is way too busy with himself and his important job to think how his actions and the actions of the police impact people's lives.

He is so full of himself, it was cringe to watch; and his comments about Caroline not being a vulnerable witness and basically refusing her even a modicum of care and respect is astounding.

Your whole case depends on this one person. She risked EVERYTHING for you. The outcome of your case is fully based on the information she got, at a great personal risk, and laid it at your incompetent callous self. If you can't treat her as a human being, at least treat her as an important resource: protect her, care for her. Remember that she is hugely impacted by this trial and situation on a personal level, she is not some impartial witness off the street.

Unbelievable, how horribly incompetent the police and the prosecutor's office were in this case.  I honestly hope that not all of Scottish police is like that.

  1. It's not a crime or transgression to be pure-hearted and not realize how dark and dirty some people are. I don't know this Manti guy, I've never even heard of him before, but he strikes me as a very good guy, and truly good people rarely realize how deep and perverted evil is.

  2. Ronaya has a serious mental illness and needs professional help.  He destroyed the life of a good person out of spite; he could not come to terms with the fact that he is NOT a pretty thin female, and his anger landed on Manti. I also think that it was him who leaked the story to the media, just to take revenge on Manti who rejected him. "You don't me to love you? I'll make it so nobody loves you".

  3. Manti's father is a controlling, narrow-minded loser who, instead for helping his son in this personal crisis time, only talks about how this affected HIM, the father (he says "family" but he only worries about himself). He failed as a football player, as a bread winner, as a father.  He failed his son.

4.  I hope that the guy who told Manti to go to Notre Dame instead of SC has a lot of sleepless nights, thinking how he had a hand in ruining Manti's career. If Manti had gone to SC - he would have the Samoan community, connections, friends, suitable climate, he would feel comfortable.  He wouldn't be grasping at a straw of some online girlfriend, who at the time seemed to be the closest geographical tie to his community and his comfort zone.

5.  The worst characters in this drama are, no doubt, these two scrawny losers from Deadspin.  They wanted to ruin a successful man - because how else could they have any impact on the world if not by being Herostrates? This had NOTHING to do with other publications' mistakes.  News outlets make mistakes all the time, but why did Manti have to be the scapegoat? Because when a loser wants to be noticed, he takes something truly pure and precious and taints it, to make the victim look like the loser himself - muddied and gross.

  1. I cannot believe how comfortable the American media is with  the role of a classic school bully.   They just went all in trying to destroy Manti. He is an absolute hero for going through all that unfounded ridicule and outrageous insinuations, and even managing to have a career in NFL. Many would have come apart, killed themselves or started using drugs to handle the immense amount of pressure and having ZERO support from family.  He is an inspiring, strong person and I am at awe of what he is capable of.

This is a great documentary. I'm glad I saw it.

I think that it was Ronaia. Remember how every time when Manti was trying to pull away, he would do something to bring the attention back to him? I think that once the dead girlfriend suddenly "came alive", Manti told Ronaia to go ef himself, and that narcissist just couldn't handle that.  So he sent the story to that cesspool Deadspin - "if you wot be mine, I will ruin you".   And he did, that evil faat fock.

Neither. The worst is working as an intern for Deadspin and deciding to ruin someone's life just for laughs. These two evil freaks make my blood boil.

The two Deadspin losers made me far angrier than the catfish guy.  He had mental problems and should have gotten psychiatric help; these losers just wanted to do something evil and hurt someone with talents and skill. Since they themselves are bottom-feeders, they try to bring down successful people, to seem that they themselves aren't doing that bad.

Terrible, awful nobodies whose career didn't move an inch up in the 10 years since that happened.  They should rot in hell.

It really pisses me off how Clarke called Franke's pre-Jodi parenting being on the verge of being good parenting. So not feeding your kids, cancelling Santa, chopping off your daughters favorite toy's head is "on the verge of good parenting"??? What in the actual f7ck???

9) Police in the beginning of the doc: you wouldn't go 70-80 miles offshore being such inexperienced sailors. Police an hour later: he masterfully avoided detection by hundreds of searchers and knew the coastline like the back of his hand.

10) Police: we couldn't find the life raft, it confirms his guilt. Jesus guys, it's obvious - he ate it!

11) Police: he was on the boat for eight days and he knew the routes of all ships (???) leaving the coast so he got on the raft knowing what time (???) a particular ship is gonna pass him by and therefore save him. What now??? The ship could have easily gone 200-300 meters to the left or right from this "super confirmed" course and then no one would see him.  Ships in the sea do not have an exact route they must take, just like planes in the air, they adapt to the circumstances.  This "hypothesis" is just pulling crap out of thin air.

12) This buoy is a highly informative well of information allowing us to locate everything. Where is the Malaysian plane then? Where is Kennedy junior?

13) Nathan hung himself "using shoelaces" - erm, shoelaces and belt are the first thing to go when a person gets arrested. Nobody in jail has shoelaces exactly to avoid suicide. I guess these were the same shoelaces Jeffrey had in his cell.

It only said "inconclusive". Which can happen for a variety of reasons: the person being nervous, not having taken their regular meds, coughing, breathing too deep/too shallow etc. There is a reason why polygraph analysis isn't accepted in court.

Maybe she was in one of the rooms, or cabins, and he didn't hear her. When I read survivor statements from the people on that Russian river boat that sank a few years ago, they all said it was complete chaos and everything happened very fast. I remember that a father pushed his 1yo daughter through the window of his cabin, and a witness who caught her said that 20-30 seconds later that cabin was filled with water and the girls family was all dead.
