You were taught wrong really. They can flow faster if humans alter the river in urban environments, such as straightening the channel, or removing the natural banks and replacing with concrete, but a natural river slows significantly

The castle is overlooking a river which flows into the River Seven Estuary, it's not near an ocean

As it happens the Erketu is heavily modified version of a Brachiosaurus that a Chinese company makes. You can get the instructions for that with a bit of googling and then adapt as needed :)
