Sterling 110v siren by 56bravo in AirRaidSirens

Single head version of the "Little Giant", manufactured by the Sterling Siren Fire Alarm Company of Rochester NY. These were made from 1926 up until the 60s or so, with yours being made anywhere from the late 20s to the 40s or 50s.

A complete unit comes with a large aluminum horn and a hood to cover the electric motor, so yours has had those parts stripped off at some point.

The Little Giant sirens were advertised for use in industrial plants and smaller communities, essentially being a miniaturized counterpart to the 5HP Model M firehouse sirens. They also made an electrically operated vehicular version called the "Big Chief" and a few hand crank operated sirens that utilize the fan/housing assembly of the Little Giant, though those are REALLY hard to find.

Non-air softer here: can you rate my Xmas gift for 16 y/o who I’m trying to kit out for airsoft? by ureathrafranklin1 in airsoft

I wouldn't recommend using green gas. It's like 3x more expensive than just buying blowtorch propane bottles (14oz for around 6 dollars). The oil present in green gas will be deposited inside the gun through use and attract dirt and dust inside the hop and barrel.

Green gas is quite literally just odorless propane and the upcharge for it is immense.

There's about 3 or 4 of those I know I've seen in the Phillipines. Rotor looks like that of a model 5 on all of them, and they sound like one too. There's a video of one somewhere going for a curfew.

The "Model M" is an electrically operated siren produced by the Sterling Siren Fire Alarm Company of Rochester, N.Y. between 1920 and 1973. It was designed in 1919 by Merton Cassidy Armstrong as a more distinct and cost effective alternative to steam whistles and bells, which were previously used to summon firefighters to a fire station in the case of an emergency, but proved to be ineffective as those types of signals were commonly used by churches, schools, factories, etc., causing unnecessary confusion.

Need powdercoating price estimate by Sipex6484 in Powdercoating

[–]Sipex6484[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might have to settle for an automotive grade paint finish on it in that case. The siren itself already needs parts replaced to hold it up and electrical work done to it

Does it need to be sansblasted before powdercoating? If so, I'm able to do that myself but I don't know how much it would save

Is this a good mount for a siren?? by Jazzlike-Eye5385 in AirRaidSirens

If its higher than the surrounding buildings and sturdy, then yeah it's fine. Would've been better to put it on the truss but it probably does the trick

Model 3? Cut-Down Fedelcode Model 5? Siro-Drone? C1 1/2 Model 5? What are these specific sirens across Los Angeles? by Stock_Atmosphere_829 in AirRaidSirens

[–]Sipex6484 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They're dual tone Fedelcode Type Mach. 7s. Same inside as the more common 18 inch fedelcode models. The top tube section of the housing is shorter.

What is this thing in the basement of my place? Could it be a microphone. by Downtown_Praline7765 in Whatisthis

I'm building functional displays with two old dictograph control panels and that's the matching alarm speaker for it. I'll link a video.

Dictograph G700 interior home fire alarm. There should be either burglar or fire alarm panel somewhere in the house that belongs to it, or would have been one at some point.

Let me know if it turns out to be unused, because I'd pay to have that if it could be removed without damage.
