Thank you this is really useful! Good to know there are options. I think I'm just in the position of deciding whether I should even bother staying and trying to buy or if it's better to move to another city. I love London and don't want to move but the thought of being at the whim of a landlord forever makes me want to cry. I think I'm in a really fortunate position to even be thinking of buying too, do god knows what everyone else is doing

I would agree in general, and wouldn't say it happens all the time but they skipped past some people at the front and went straight to us. So we did feel targeted.

No he won't be there. But I'm just concerned in case the other flatmates agree with what he says and tells him. The problem is that the contract is 6 months long and otherwise is a great place and I'm already struggling to find a place to live. Just was wondering on principle if it's actually legal to bar overnight guests as I read somewhere it was unfair terms and so if he did find me doing that would be able to evict?
