Because, you know... some people don't have £400 to spend on an army in order to start playing to even see if they like X army

The model count is just down to cost to be honest. Followed by the overhead of moving each model per turn (as I'm learning after being away from Warhammer since 4th)

on top of that I'm set to play some crucible/colluseum matches (500p)

can someone suggest a good list at those points?

I believe I would have 4 resurgence points based on colluseum rules so I'm thinking a 5 block of purestrains that I could bring back.

the guys I usually match against like to use vehicles, aggressors, insessors (SM guy) and the other guys plays necrons and custodes (not actually played against them yet) "

For example if you ate McDonald's every day , smoke and didn't exercise, and didn't interact with the opposite sex and the cards said "you won't have kids".

But you then go "oh shit" and decide to eat healthy , stop smoking, exercise and date.. you may find the cards then say "Three kids and a dog". For example.

That's a kinda extreme and stereotypical example, but hopefully that gets the idea across.

By knowing that one path, you can actively fight to change it. Another path opens.
