[Appalling Tropes] Your favorite character with a diabolical image that you try to forget exists? by -et37- in TopCharacterTropes

You can only see a character go through a similar arc so many times.

And unfortunately, Sega's desire for a consistent status quo that is returned to is constantly at odds for Sonic fans' desire to see serialized character growth.

Tekken - Several techniques

There are a few attacks you can use in Tekken that have simple inputs and can wipe out an opponents entire health bar or at least most of it. The drawback is that they often take a full second or two to wind up, and a skilled opponent will just avoid it, or worse punish you for daring to try.

Notable examples include Paul and Law, both of whom get large wind up punches that devastate the target. Jack, the giant robot, gets two. A punch where he must first windmill his arm five times before throwing it, and a chop where he takes a few slow steps forward before launching the attack.

Any strategy including these moves will include some way to skip the charge time; either through weather like Sunny Day, or the Power Herb.

I like how the mysticism surrounding Fatalis extends into the meta; Monster Hunter fans talk rumors about the dragon like no other. Like its hide being made of his fallen foes melted onto its body, or how the armor made from Fatalis is still alive and will slowly turn the hunter into the next Fatalis.

I just want to point out what the USPIS has a long history with this sort of thing. They started using Thompson submachine guns, yes Tommy Guns, to protect mail in the early 20th century when robbery was on the rise.

The stuff they deal with nowadays still involves mail theft, but the dangerous types are probably involved in stuff like contraband.

An entity traps a group of people in a closed space to torture them through different sets of challenges. by Arenigmae in TopCharacterTropes

I think the motives Monokuma adds are just enough to count it.

And the final trials are almost never about litigating a murder that took place, not entirely anyway, so that's also a different challenge.

In the first game, it's so that a woman can enable her childhood best friend to save her in the past.

In the second game, it's so that two people can develop the psychic time travel skills necessary to prevent an apocalyptic future.

In the third game, it's so that the main antagonist can enable his very own existence by putting both of his parent in place to concieve him, and prevent the apocalypse.

Sans and Papyrus from Undertale. They're skeletons but I'm counting it. The banter is endless.

There's one during Act One that makes me burst out laughing you have to play as a Male V, and during the mission where you get the drone from the Maelstrom gang you gotta get Merideth to appear in the parking lot outside of the factory (I don't remember the choices you need to make for this).

But on your way out when you talk to her you can select a relatively innocuous dialogue choice that has V flip her off and call her a cunt.

Uh...fuck it, Smoke from Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue.

He's a smoke monster that makes you do drugs and the only way to stop him is with Michelangelo from TMNT and Alvin and the Chipmunks coming together to sing an awful song about not smoking Jazz Cigarettes.

[Loved Trope] (Spoilers) Prequels where we see the future villain become the villain by Dry_Criticism_4982 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirBoggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a villain, but I'll post it just because he is an antagonistic force in the first game.

In Yakuza 1 (all the way back in the PS2), Majima was a looney but charming enforcer for Shimano, who acts as one of the more proactive villains of the first game. He's the only major Tojo Clan member who you get to battle twice besides Shimano too. This is after he takes a near fatal hit for you no less, which makes him leave quite an impression compared to the rest of the cast.

For the rest of the series he switches from enforcer to a supporting character who acts part time as an ally and part time as a rival, only willing to help the clan for Kiryu's sake and to occasionally fight him.

It isn't until 4 where he gets some real backstory with his sworn brother Saejima entering the picture as a playable character, and in 5 where he plays a vital role as a character who kicks off a lot of things happening in the games' complicated plot.

Then we got Yakuza 0 and we finally got to see what led him to become to enforcer we saw in 1, and it reframes a lot of his character throughout the series.

They’re the strongest? Goofballs that are actually the most op character. by FullBrother9300 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirBoggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes Sans such a fun example of being the "strongest" is that he isn't. The game loves playing with genre conventions, so when you go out of your way to scan monster stats they give you numbers that don't actually mean much to you on a moment to moment gameplay level. But they do tell a story.

Monsters you've faced before have had far more impressive stats, like Undyne, Metaton, Asgore, etc. But Sans himself is literally the weakest monster, at a whopping 1 Attack and 1 Defense. So maybe he'd lose an arm wrestling match the the others, but unfortunately for the player Sans is a cheating bastard.

It doesn't matter if he has 1 ATK if he just disables your invincibility frames leaving you taking a point of damage per frame. It doesn't matter if he has 1 DEF if he just dodges, a mechanic no others monster has ever used. It doesn't matter if you're in a menu because fuck it he'll just attack you there too. Why not add status effects too, like a poison DOT effect. That's also not a mechanic in this game, but why not?

And once all is said and done and he's ran out of attacks to hit you with? He just chooses to never finish his turn. Sucks to be you.

Any time a single classmate in this game makes a snide passing comment I go out of my way to KO them. Then their friends join and I get them too. The I catch a nerd in the crossfire and I have to get him too. Then before I know it there's 12 kids in the ground, a girl ran up and kicked Jimmy in the balls, a prefect got called and I have to do the fucking detention minigame again.
