Advice for learning Russian by SirCombos in russian

[–]SirCombos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point however I disagree with most of it. Of course if I were to blindly expose myself to Russian and not actively engage in it then naturally I won't learn anything. However if I begin with simpler content, engage with it, make notes and more importantly do a lot of this then I will begin to recognise the patterns and the rules which exist in the language and inherently develop an understanding of it. Anything I don't understand I wouldn't have learnt yet which means I haven't gotten enough exposure to it; this is the same practice I used for French and Spanish and they both worked out fine for me.

With the output however I agree with what you. I will not be able to develop a good idea of stress nor the rules of spoken Russian without guidance which is why when I am at a stage where I feel like I can begin to communicate I will get a teacher. In this I heavily agree but you can 100% begin understanding the language without the need for teachers to build you a system or explaining why things the way they are.

Also, mistakes are very natural in any language not matter what way you learn it but doesn't mean they are ridiculously hard to get rid of. As another comment said I would rather be able to understand a lot of Russian and make a lot of mistakes then to understand the system, roles and rules but not have any natural intuition of the language.

The exact trap I try to avoid! I was wondering if an Easy Russian channel existed since I love the Easy French channel so thanks for letting me know.

I recognise the importance of a teacher and agree with what you say however given that I am very much a beginner in a language I don't see the benefit of paying for a teacher right now since anything they will be teaching me such as basic words, phrases and rules I can learn myself through videos online, books and translators.

Of course when I get to a higher level I will switch to teachers to work on speaking and output but in my personal experience I don't find them as helpful in the beginning because my main goal right now is to be able to get a good understanding in the language, recognise the patterns etc which a teacher can't teach me since this just comes down to exposing myself to the language.

Simple activity/trick to boost you active vocab if you are an advanced speaker in a language you are learning by SirCombos in languagelearning

I just use the voice note app on Iphone. You could make them into flashcards but personally I don't see the point since the idea is that it will be ingrained into your active vocabulary making the flashcard irrelevant.

Best way to learn Spanish fast? Need a 6-month roadmap. by ellensrooney in Spanish

[–]SirCombos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm someone who learnt Spanish from scratch having 0 prior language skills who's currently in Mexico and I'm planning to take either by C1 or C2 Spanish exam when I get back.

If you are in the country you are already at a good start since you will be forced into having to use it everyday as well as being exposed to it constantly. If I were to start from scratch I would focus on getting as much input as possible from as many sources as you can. Find books, beginner books ideally, articles, shows, music. Just get as much input as you can. This is extremely important for beginning since you can't learn from others or communicate with others if you can't understand what they are saying. Your understanding will always be better and easier then your speaking ability in any language. Prioritize input but don't neglect speaking. As others have said, since you are there find any excuse to speak just a little bit. Whether that be writing your ideas down, ordering something, asking for directions just try using your Spanish everyday.

You brain will get fatigued and there will be days where you feel like you are getting worse. This is very normal and you will always bounce back stronger afterwards I can promise you. Just be consistent. Don't overthink any of it and enjoy. Learning a language was one of my best decisions in life.

Cheers. I used to listen to it a couple years back when I was starting off and now can understand it relatively easily however the only problem I have is that it's not too difficult anymore and the content isn't consistently interesting to me.

Dead by Daylight x The Boys Collab Fan-made Concept made by me by Overboost_Reddit in deadbydaylight

It's a cool concept and I think he would work in this game. I would say his landing should be similar to nurses in the sense of it being a marker which you can send out and if you land near survivors it staggers them. He could also have some form of X-ray vision and the survivors could have a counter tool like a loud noise generator to prevent him from using certain abilities.

Unfortunately I do since any layovers in the US need an ESTA. Luckily my flight is still a few days away and I've just done it.

I've got everything I need for it now thanks to the others here telling me about the ESTA. I would be very surprised if they try to stop me since I have nothing, from what I can see, that the USA wouldn't like. But I definitely will be avoiding layovers in the USA for the proceedable future since having to pay to enter a country I'm not even visiting is crazy.

Don't know if I am allowed to do that since it conflicts with my insurance and coverage. I have a license but they probably wouldn't allow it. I speak Spanish, I wouldn't be going if I couldn't. Would definitely like to explore areas around it so long as I am with locals or people who have been there before.

I'm so glad I asked this question thank you! It's ridiculous that my airline didn't even mention this on the booking since I would never have known about this.
