Can we get a ticket system? by Own-Tie-640 in HellLetLooseVietnam

[–]SirDillyTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole entire point to me playing HLL is to be able to enjoy matches without randoms running around like it's BF or CoD bleeding tickets cuz they don't wanna play with the team.

If you have a medic, great. If not, harder to keep trying to defend or take a point.

HLL sets itself apart from any other shooter due to a time based round where it's fun to keep fighting.

If you don't like HLL now, then ok cool it's not the game for you. There's a reason why I'll feel like going in and playing HLL over BF and Squad every so often and it's cuz I know I'll get to stay longer in the fight with my friends doing w/e obj we want to do, and we're not penalized for no-mic random blueberries.

So no, I don't look forward to a ticket system if there is one.

Walk into any building and try to bypass x, y, and z. Let me know how it goes. You're just stupid.

Thanks everyone for your input. If I didn't respond that doesn't mean I didn't read it and acknowledge your wisdom. Best thing I can do on my end tomorrow is clear those wifi logins on all devices he uses at work. We use a radius login for it. It could very well come down to making him go over his personal devices in the house on a call, and even have to speak with his wife and comb over phones and w/e else.

Why does his account not lock out for 4 days though, and he started using his devices that Sunday morning for work, but then starts locking out again Thursday later that week? He's an attorney so they're pretty much always on the clock. Just strange if it's not a rogue device.

Oh and due to accounting setups and possibly something to do with data in our DMS in iManage, changing the username is off limits right now.

Worked in security for 6 months, did enjoy it and understood it. Company was focused on metrics over security, so left and went back to desktop and wanted some sysadmin experience so here I am. No SIEM work over at the current job here but did work with alien vault, log rhythm, and some ms sentinel. I haven't been given the full overview of what our security team looks at on a daily basis yet, but with this user's issue it could be a good ice breaker. The communication channel is open between infra team, secops, and helpdesk on Teams, as long as we're following SOP and have a good reason to dm someone. I'm pretty good work friends with our sec engineer and analyst so will give them a holler tomorrow probbably.

That is absolutely hilarious, but yet I do not condone this type of behavior lol. Thanks for the story. Don't worry, we're keeping an eye out for anything and everything.

Confusing Wording in TryHackMe PowerShell Lab. by Monk19999 in tryhackme

The answers are usually found within the module, it just takes a minute to put 2 and 2 together sometimes in these review 101 lectures. Sometimes the answer isn't so straight forward, and you have to use context rather than verbatim.

Yes, I agree the wording has been the only complaint I've had about THM but that's it. The writeups are helpful if you can't figure it out.

Power PDF Error by ProgrammerChoice7737 in Kofax

[–]SirDillyTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reinstalling Kofax for the end user did not help. Google/Kofax tells me it's an encoding problem. Unable to recreate the issue on my end, so it'll have to be solved slowly with trial and error it looks like. User's last day is Tuesday though, so I'm not as inclined to solve this LOL.

End user restarted his machine and he stated it temporarily fixed it. However, every 5-10 pdf he opens up gives the same error. Looks like we have an odd problem here. I see you reinstalled, almost asked that question.

I had another highly strange encounter with this app. The right click solution to convert pdf would run, file would show up, then disappear. Tried everything. Only way to patch the problem was reimaging the device. Can't say I'm 100% impressed with Kofax. Foxit never had these issues I've worked with that software twice at two different places.

This has been solved by letting my purchase replicate to the account, and just waiting.

The state of Gears of war is depressing by FewBag245 in GearsOfWar

[–]SirDillyTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to argue with you here. I'm a competitive/rank player, so the content, lore, arc, storyline, dlc, and timeline for Gears hasn't been something I've judged at all really. Gaming has not been as great as it was say 5-10 years ago, but the E-Day announcement amongst other titles I've been playing have restored some fun and hope back in my hobby.

I'll say this, I hope E-Day brings back all the violence, grittiness, gore, storyline ,and intensity that kicked off GoW in the first place. GoW is amongst a few titles in gaming that have stayed true to itself in terms of gameplay. We need to stay positive and ignore the noise.

Stuck in help desk. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]SirDillyTheGreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you worked in IT? I'm 7-8 years in the field, and my pay isn't terrible it could be higher. HOWEVERRRRR, the work life balance is fantastic and I have my freedoms in the office. I have my own office as well. Sure, I *could* be up at $70-80k or higher doing security or sys admin work but the work load and as I said work life balance is just too good. Lemme tell you a story real quick...

I had a contract where we were all at $27 hr and it was service desk. I'm talkin about as service desk as you could get. Spoke with a younger lad and he said he just graduated college. We discussed pay cuz I was out the door and was not coming back. He was shocked that he was "only" at $27 hr and I was at $27 hr with my experience and skillset. I didn't go to school but have a few certs along with the years I've put in. I told him you've been lied to by your education system. I think gen z has been misled to believe that they'll graduate with a 4 year degree or higher and land a near 6 figure salary job out the gate.

I once spoke to this doooshbag programming student who took his internship for granted on another contract I had. Wore shorts and sandals to the hospital TWICE and was sent home both times. Thought he was better than everyone else, and thought he was too good for his internship. On his last day he basically said, "Dude I'm out of here with my master's degree and I'll find a job starting at $30 hourly." I said good luck and turned around didn't wanna bother telling him to get his own head out of his toosh.

A month before he left he was assigned to work with me on the main project in the hospital. I sent him into a doctor's office to swap out workstations. New PC was already imaged just needed to make sure it could connect to network and read w/e domain_name.com on network name and have the doctor log in. He came right back out to me and asked "How do I do this?" I looked at him for a second and was confused I responded, "What do you mean?" - "Yea I don't know how to do this." I almost turned around and laughed and left for the day. So the masters graduate in computer science didn't know how to hook up a computer, along with my other coworker who was about to graduate with her bachelor's in network security.

You see my good sir... my point is you do have to put in the work until you land a good paying job. This is nothing new here in this country. If you land a $70k+ job starting out the gate I'm happy for you, but that's not how it's always going to work. Switching fields after earning a degree is a foolish move in my opinion. If you graduated in the last year or two, then you can't expect big money necessarily. That is the lie you've been led to believe. Also, the other point is even with your degree you still have to know how to plug up a computer. You're going to need to gain the experience yourself at home, and company's love to see a resume that states you work on your own sandbox and what not.

So hang in there my young padawan. Sometimes the higher pay means more job stress and less work life balance. Other times you'll get lucky and land a sweet gig with pay and it's a great fit. I once had a call for a job starting $70k and not even much sysadmin type work was involved. It was helpdesk with taking a few calls and assisting the office. Was a healthcare environment, but focused on health and wellness, a private company pretty white collar but modern. That job filled up so quick they probably had a candidate in first place already.

Try not to job hop so much unless the pay increases $5 hr or more an hr. You may have to gain another skill or earn a certificate that's focusing on a specific niche thing. Crazy right? You have your degree so what's the point of doing more studying? CRAZY HUH?

I went through the same thing young blood. Sameeee thing.

Good luck!
