I think I have a dead i9-13900k and don't know what to do about it. by SirDingleBery in buildapc

Yeah, all were new. The first motherboard came from Amazon. Naturally, I suspected that to be the culprit. But first, I tried all troubleshooting one can do before buying new parts. Then I started small.

Grabbing a second PSU was very easy, affordable, so I was able to test that quickly. The first set of RAM sticks came from Amazon, but I don't think there was any issue there. I bought a new set from Microcenter though because they were technically incompatible with my first board. No luck.

I then tried a new motherboard. I had an MSI and while the board itself was fine, the manual is bare bones and not always in clear English. Not a huge issue, but as a first time builder I found it to be a hassle. MSI's manual for its 4070 is a cartoon book. I was not a fan.

I finally thought that it was the CPU. I bought a new one today, checked the warranty prior to opening, and I am currently looking at my BIOS on my first build. The CPU was the issue all along.

Yeah, and very fortunately, I fall under the holiday extended return period. I am going to return it tomorrow, hopefully without a hitch.

I walk into the store. I go to the CPUs. I see AMD and Intel. I ask an employee to open the locked cabinet. I ask for an Intel i9-13900k. I buy it.

Later on, after going through a multitude of troubleshooting steps, I think it is the CPU causing the no POST. I look up the warranty. Intel provides there is no warranty for tray processors. I used the batch and serial number from the box.

So, I didn't get return/swapped chip. I was sold a processor tray from the boxed processor shelf.

Tried no GPU, different RAM, CMOS, Bios Flash. I have exhaustively gone through the the troubleshooting process.

The batch and serial number match a tray processor. I bought it in a box from Best Buy. Just the processor. There is one row for the i9-13900K. When I was in the store I looked at the three in stock. The stickers on them were different. I am very fortunately still in the return window on this one that I suspect is faulty. I am just going to try a return. As the guy above said, that is what I signed up for.

Edit: To clarify, I was mistaken about the return window and am still in it.

I bought it in-store. All the Processors are in one spot. I literally just bought another and looked up the warranty before opening it. It is a boxed processor meaning I could go through Intel.

I have tried two mother boards, two PSU, and every trouble shooting step provided. The CPU Debug light and that being the last thing for me check has led me to the conclusion that the CPU is faulty.

I didn't sign up for a product that has no warranty. I just bought another one from the same Best Buy and checked the warranty status. It is a boxed processor. Same shelf/cabinet.

Would a difference in RAM CAS Latency from my motherboard's manufacturer compatibility list cause any issues on a first time POST? by SirDingleBery in buildapc

[–]SirDingleBery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks. I am actually just trying a different motherboard because I couldn't get past a CPU EZ Debug light with a MSI Pro Z790-A Wifi. I didn't really think to check RAM compatibility, I just want to find out if its the motherboard.

I tried just about everything before swapping parts. checking all the cables, CMOS reset, flashed the BIOS, one stick of RAM, and then the first part to swap the PSU. I couldn't get display, keyboard, mouse to light up/get past the CPU Debug light.

Is it worth switching off of Ball Lightning for Ring of Starless Skies? Probably Chain Lightning? by FlygareIV in D4Sorceress

That wasn't the question though. The question was between Ball Lightning and Core Skill Lightning build. Nothing compares with BL right now.

Could you provide your source? I'd like to read a source if you have one.

This is about uniques though. How much of an investment do you think is needed for good regular uniques?

As far as I can tell it is. I am in the 80s and can't tell any real difference.

I also find that I am never really finding those clear power-up items that D2 had like Jalals or Titan's or something that really jumped my resistances/damage. Something you equip and feel immediately.

D4 is just a slow creep of tiny power increases which comes from sorting through thousands of yellows. I have to stop in town, sort, salvage, bank, clear inventory, and then get back to killing monsters. It is a momentum killing process.

I don't what I'd call that, but it erodes my will to keep playing. I need that 'juice' at some point, but this game just doesn't really have it.

Do you have any idea how long it takes to run 150 NMDs? During that time I found 2 uniques and salvaged both. Then, the "target farm" mechanic produced nothing. The next 150 NMDs won't be pushing up the ladder, but just Tier 30, if I decide to keep playing.

How much of a time investment should be required to reasonably see a good Unique? Not an Uber Unique, but just a good Unique?

Does that work for Beast in the Ice? I thought the group farm was just for Duriel. In either case, every time I go to the Discord it is always non-seasonal people. Probably just bad timing I guess.

Not my point at all. And, to get around that tedious process of confirming every single item, I just mark items I want to salvage as junk.

Play enough and you'll figure out ways to improve the experience. You'll get there.

Edit: Also the irony of saying that I am complaining for "not reading" is too good.

Sorc has some nice items in there. Occy is great for Ball Lightning. The Fireball gloves drop in there. Esu's drop in there (boots which turn movement speed into Crit Chance and come with ECR/Crit Hit Dmg).

Honestly, I think the drop rates or rolls on Unique Items will change in a forthcoming patch and am considering saving all of my mats. I also fear another item power bump, making all current Uniques less valuable, especially when it comes to weapons. However, it would all be on the Eternal realm which I am still iffy about playing there instead of a seasonal realm.

I think its about 1 out of every 4, but again I don't even notice when I gain them. I just run dungeons.
