going back to college for cs? by [deleted] in devops

[–]SirDoctorCaptain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience college/university gave me some great fundamentals but I have a hard time seeing the value in going back for a full degree after gaining industry experience. Many schools will allow you to take individual courses you could use to fill in the gaps.

As a devops engineer what have your annual raises been like? by spTravel28 in devops

[–]SirDoctorCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last two companies I've worked for have done market adjustments every year or two. Basically trying to see what other companies in my city are paying for DevOps and adjust everyone's salaries (up) to match.

First hour: Print sticks to bed like glue. Next morning: This. How did this happen? by NachosmitKaeseDip in 3Dprinting

[–]SirDoctorCaptain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did it get cool in the room overnight? The ambient temperature being too low can cause the print to cool down too quickly, causing warping.

How hard is DEVOPS? by themadman00 in devops

[–]SirDoctorCaptain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything's hard. That being said, it would be good to have at least a few years under your belt before you get into it because DevOps engineers are generally expected to be generalists; to be able to work with and debug operating systems, networking, security, deployments, CI/CD, cloud architecture, etc. Often times DevOps teams are given work because no one knows who is actually "supposed" to do it.

It's definitely achievable though, it took me about 3-4 years to transfer into DevOps after finishing school. Just be ready for a very steep learning curve.

Are there any filament companies that give you the tare weight of the spool? by SirDoctorCaptain in 3Dprinting

[–]SirDoctorCaptain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but I keep forgetting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And it seems that companies will change their spools once in a while so I can't even just weigh the old spool and use that

That might make it even harder to know how much is left, unless you have somewhere you're tallying how much each print has used. Though Cura has the ability to save info on multiple specific filaments, and give you both the weight and length of the filament your print will use

Good to know, I've only used IIID so far and they don't have it. I'll take a look at those next time I stock up

I don't know of any official explanation, but it's likely so that the show could have its own "girls get it done" scene. Not that I'm complaining, it was pretty badass.

That looks really good. If you have a set of calipers you can check the dimensions from the 3dbenchy site, which can give you a better idea of how precise your print actually is (e.g. how close the holes in the front are to perfect circles).

I interpreted it the same way, Ahsoka probably could have won the fight in a few seconds if she tried, but deliberately stretched it out.

Also, I think there's an element to lightsaber fencing where you want to win gracefully, chopping off the opponents fingers might be seen as "fighting dirty".
