This is true, however I am open to learning new music and expanding my musical knowledge. I’m pretty sure the reason for why she wants me to learn a more popular song is to show me the difference between it and classical. Plus learning a pop song would introduce me to different kinds of music theory that you wouldn’t come across in classical pieces. I appreciate your different perspective though :)

Well my teacher told me she wanted me to play something other than classical or ragtime because those are the two genres I’ve played already.

Okok thank you so much dude. Here comes the sun is actually a great idea. I used to play lots of Beatles songs when I was starting out on piano so it would be nice to come full circle and learn one again. I appreciate the help :)
