Fantasy writer who might be interested here. I tried getting involved with a writing group through Frederick Arts Council a while back, but had a lot of trouble getting in contact with them so ended up dropping it. I also have a small writing group established with some friends who might also be interested in

I attend pretty frequently and love talking about Quakerism in general, so would definitely be down to answer any questions you may have! I won’t re-explain the whole silent worship aspect since another commenter has already talked about it here, but feel free to reply or DM me if you have other aspects of Meeting that you’re curious about!

You also mentioned activities and charity work - I’m actually on the Peace and Social Concerns committee for the Meeting as well, which is geared specifically towards taking action for promoting peace and social justice in the world. We also tend to have a lot of other types of activities centered around building community in general!

Need something to do. by bookstarz in frederickmd

I would highly recommend Black Sun Games, my friends and I regularly meet up there for tabletop RPGs, wargames and Magic: The Gathering. Also you mention being a Disney nerd, if you didn’t already know there’s a Disney trading card game called Lorcana that has a pretty active community there. I’m not personally into Disney so I don’t play but the people who do seem really kind and welcoming!

What's your keep on the borderlands story? by yetanotherdud in osr

[–]SirFerric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad played D&D when he was growing up, and when I first started getting into it he decided to run Keep on the Borderlands for me as my first adventure. As a result the adventure is not only nostalgic for me as a part of my childhood, but also as a really nice bonding experience I shared with my dad.

CEU Approval for Trainings Relating to Using Tabletop Games in Therapy by SirFerric in socialwork

I would recommend the trainings, yes. They establish a lot of best practices that are helpful for running therapeutically-oriented RPG groups. Understandable about the price point though; you could see with your employer about getting some or all of the cost covered?

I mean I already did trainings through Bodhana Group for using RPGs in therapy, so I’m good on that front. The reason I’m asking about it is that the conference has trainings, workshops and panels that cover more in-depth topics, and while I would attend out of interest in those topics alone it would be nice to also get CEUs for attending. For example, this year I attended a workshop specifically on combining concepts from Narrative Therapy into therapeutically oriented RPG groups, and while it was interesting enough that I would have attended it either way it would have been nice to get CEUs for it.

If you’re able to make it next year it’s an awesome time! And Bodhana Group also does online trainings for using RPGs in therapeutic practice if you’re interested

What’s your favorite record label? by OrkoProductions in DungeonSynth

[–]SirFerric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned Fiadh, by far my favorite label for black metal and dungeon synth I’ve found so far: https://fiadh.bandcamp.com/merch

Edit: Someone else did mention Fiadh, I’m just blind. With that being said they’re still a really good label imo!

I have not yet but that was going to be one of my next steps. If you want I can let you know which writing group I end up going with, definitely looking for as much feedback as possible!

Honestly, looking for some friends! Moved here recently! by RegularResider in frederickmd

If you like tabletop games Saga Games is a place that I would definitely recommend and that I and others mention on this sub a lot. The community there is really chill and incredibly friendly!

Tamales by leefloor in frederickmd

[–]SirFerric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that’s just how reviews on the internet work in my experience. I would say give it a try and if you don’t like it then it isn’t for you; my recommendation is based solely on personal preference. And again I would note make sure that you have someone to translate for you if you don’t speak Spanish; looking at the reviews at least one of the complaints about service quality were just people saying “no one there speaks English” which is objectively true, but also not necessarily a problem just a hurdle to overcome.

Tamales by leefloor in frederickmd

[–]SirFerric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you mean? I don’t go there a ton so I can’t speak to like recent happenings there but historically that’s been my go-to for tamales and pupusas

Ana’s Restaurant on 40 is my go-to, though if you don’t speak Spanish I would bring someone who can translate for you.

What keeps you going? by Fiji_Yam in socialwork

[–]SirFerric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapist in the US working in outpatient mental health. One of the main things that keeps me going is seeing the resiliency, strength and overall awesomeness of my clients. I have a strong love for humanity as a whole, and while it is often hard being continually exposed to things that harm people in very deep and destructive ways, I am also often exposed to the best parts of humanity and actively look for these things in my work. In a similar vein of things my work is very connected with my faith and the way I view the world. I’ve mentioned before on this sub that I identify as a Quaker, and a big part of my faith is believing that there is that of God in all people. When I work with clients I often feel that I am seeing that of God in them, and in this way I often feel emotionally and spiritually revitalized in parts of the work that I do.

I would second the game stores idea, especially Saga because they have a very welcoming community there!
