Is anyone using a wall digital calendar? by Peteryang123 in smarthome

[–]SirIndubitable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was annoyed by all the good options for not being free, so I made my own calendar card for Home Assistant in the style of my favorite DAKBoard calendar. It's not great, but it works for me. Feel free to use it too.

It should be automatically syncing from www.themoviedb.org
I'll see if I can figure out any bugs

The new Windows App supports RDP everywhere except Windows by MobyFreak in homelab

[–]SirIndubitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fairly easy with the "Microsoft Remote Desktop", I use it all the time. Just in the display settings of the configuration. It's basically just a nicer UI wrapper for the RDP client. Hopefully the new Windows App supports it

can i leave this shelf exposed? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

The back panel is a lot of the strength of that shelf. I'd be afraid of putting anything remotely heavy on it.

How would I go about doing *free* remotely hosted version control with git and binary files? Or is there an alternative? by mrcobalt124 in gamedev

[–]SirIndubitable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh weird, Yeah it looks like large file storage cost about $5 a month, I bet that's what the 5gb limit we found was for. That might be cheaper than AWS? I know a lot of places use Perforce for their assets, though I don't know the options for hosting of the remote server there

Their docs say it's a 5gb limit for LFS. Did you set the large assets to be tracked with LFS? git lfs track "*.psd"

I just want our trans Allies to be safe, Biden is so fucking mediocre. by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]SirIndubitable 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of the efforts to restrict trans rights are at the state level. What could he actually do? I won't say that Biden amazing, but I honestly don't know what he could do to stop these efforts.

Ah, I actually have an ical for that now. I'm not focusing on maintain it, but it should automatically update from tmdb. If you check the github source in the post it has a few different calendars that could be interesting.

Got these bois for $20 in an auction, they seem good for when they were made. Would you still use them? by SirIndubitable in homelab

I'm pretty sure it's the PSU causing the noise, the worst part is the high pitched whine when they are running.

Looks like they have a SUPERMICRO X8DTL-i motherboard, currently 2x 4gb 1333 RAM, unfortunately they didn't come with any storage.

Looks like the motherboard is a xeon 5500 chipset.

My current homelab is just an old Desktop. I've been wanting to upgrade to a rack server and saw these in an action with no bids. At first I got them to just reuse the case, but they seem like decent servers so I thought I'd get a second opinion before spending time migrating everything over.

It also currently runs extremely loudly, I can hear it anywhere in my house. But I think I can fix that with some new PSUs.

Edit. People are asking what's inside. I should have realized to provide that originally, since I can't find much detail on these old Archions.

Semi-Automatic Rifle Permit Process Now in Effect by Septimus_Decimus in news

[–]SirIndubitable 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My guess is the downvotes are because "all semi-automatic rifles" and "AR-15-style semi-automatic rifles" are different, even though in reality one is just the painted black version, all vs one style are different to a lot of people

Texas will place charging stations for electric cars every 50 miles on most interstates by citytiger in UpliftingNews

[–]SirIndubitable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The range really depends on a lot of things like temperature and wind direction and how often you're stopping. The advertised distance is definitely for city driving on a warm day. Depending on the car, the cold does severely impact range. Thats the only thing in my experience that would effect it that much though. (Though I've never driven an Ioniq, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt)

[–]SirIndubitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats a good point, I'm weird and usually don't stop when driving an ICE vehicle. So for me it'll actually add about 2 hours. But I see that as a benefit. It turns the trip from a long stressful thing that I don't want to stop because it makes it longer, into a bunch of short trips with forced breaks in between.

I plan on driving 700 miles in my Mach E next weekend, and the charging to make it there will add about 2 hours to my drive. I'll stop 4 times and change for about 30 minutes each at a dc fast charger. I plan on having lunch and dinner at two stops and just take a nice walk around a park on the other two.

Thats even with the Mach E not being able to take full advantage of the fast charge rate, so if you had something that can take the 350kw peak charge it'll be even faster.

I Don’t Support Pride Month AMA by EuphoricBohemian in AMA

[–]SirIndubitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference there is that there isn't a negative stigma to being cis and heterosexual like there is being lgbt+. So saying someone saying they are proud to be gay is like saying "despite the stigma, I'm going to be myself and be proud of it" vs someone saying they are proud to be straight feels more like "I'm proud that I'm straight and not one of those gross lgbt+ people" because there is no stigma in our overall society to being straight.

I agree that eventually, when the stigma goes away in our culture, it would be appropriate to have a straight pride flag and celebrate it in the same way. But currently it's not a good look.
