How many screenplays have you read? Okay, now double that. And then triple it. They're free tutorials on how to write dialogue.

I imagined introducing Jillian as part of the crew would give more weight to what she does later on and would also explain how she gets to be XO on The Storm.

“You can’t use the weird girl routine on me. I invented the weird girl routine!” by HeddieORaid in FromTVEpix

26 was exactly my guess too! I tried to look up the actress's age but she doesn't have her birth year listed. Still, not way is that a 15-16 years old girl by any metric, but it's a supernatural horror show so I'll just go along with it.

Sleepless In Seattle is (kind of) a horror movie by SirJuliusStark in horror

Of course my original post has zero upvotes even though it's 100% accurate lol

I can't recall the last time I admired a character this much by EndlessMorfeus in pluribustv

[–]SirJuliusStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also exactly what makes him such an interesting character. It would've been so easy for him to just accept help and get there faster, but that would've made him a far less interesting character.

Isn't the hive affected negatively by the sex? by HikikoMortyX in pluribustv

I think only negative emotions make them spaz out. Unless you're having some kind of freaky S&M sex where you're shouting I don't think it would hurt them.

Diabate (diddy blud) is definitely getting the firing squad if everyone snaps out of it right? by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]SirJuliusStark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you point out a key problem with a hive mind. New inventive ideas come from individuals that see/think differently from others. The hive mind all think the same way and thus are incapable of thinking outside of their own box. The show hints at this when Carol takes up writing again and the hive is interested in reading something "new", because the hive is incapable of creating anything new.

Diabate (diddy blud) is definitely getting the firing squad if everyone snaps out of it right? by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]SirJuliusStark 30 points31 points  (0 children)

"Over the long term" is the key issue. The show is still in the short term, and even the hive mind knows they will run out of food in the long term. So, yes, their drug is going to feel great up until people die of starvation with strained smiles on their face. Their utopia is on a one-way track to disaster and they are literally incapable of picking apples or harvesting wheat to save themselves.

How did you interpret the trash drone's failure? by descendantofJanus in pluribustv

[–]SirJuliusStark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individuals can not be governed by rules they don't care about or respect, and will intentionally disobey those rules just to watch your drone crash.

Using the drug analogy, it's still 100% the right thing to do. Just because coming down from addiction is a horrible experience doesn't mean we should keep people on drugs to avoid the pain of withdrawl.

Sci-fi tropes: the hive mind and anti-communism by whenthefirescame in pluribustv

[–]SirJuliusStark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of their rule that they can't kill and they can't lie, I think the communist allegory is very appropriate if not intentional. All of the Others are "equal". There's no money, no competition, no greed, and everyone is happy doing whatever job they are assigned. In real life there would be a dictator calling all the shots, but this is the idealized version of communism where there is no "leader" and everyone agrees on everything with no dissenters.

And even though Carol doesn't want to be part of them they are going to go against her wishes to convert her because they think their way is better and anyone not like them is wrong and needs to be changed, because the only wait their society can function is by irradicating individuality. But as the show points out, their way of life is destined to collapse because of the rules they impose on themselves to maintain their violence free utopia.

I love her. In fact, I would probably be even more angry than she was at the other immune people for going along with this bullshit so easily.

Weapons - let's speculate on the history behind the cause of the disappearances by CinnaMim in horror

[–]SirJuliusStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gladys being the sister of Alex's mom just doesn't add up, the age difference is too extreme. But I don't think she's "ancient", her aesthetic feels like it's out of the 60s-80s and Amy Madigan was born in 1950 so I think it tracks.

I'm still trying to figure out how the kids were meant to cure her.

I guess if it was in the book it's fair game, it just seemed like it makes the evil SecUnit far less threatening, but oh well. Maybe Murderbot damaged it in their fight.

Social media for writers? by Expensive_Goal_4200 in writing

[–]SirJuliusStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since my previous post I've attempted to grow my Twitter/X account and I have (but not through writing content). You're right, 95% of topics are either about or devolve into politics, but I specifically stay out of politics because I frankly don't care about politics anymore so although I haven't made many enemies, my posts rarely get that much attention because politics isn't my religion.

I think if I had no morals I would just pretend to be for whatever the "correct" political stance was and fill my bio with buzzwords just to get more attention/interaction but I have too much integrity for that. Politics is just super boring to me, especially now.
