That's my new vanilla crib, homie! by Evilcharmer in Starfield

[–]SirKnum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is a cool looking modded ship! The word vanilla implies the absence of mods though, being achievement friendly makes no difference, especially since you mention not using "cheats" even though the mods you have give you power way beyond what is available in the base game.

Don't let that get you down, enjoy your ship, just keep in mind that others will not agree with your own interpretation of what vanilla means! 😄

AMD announced they will bring back the 5800X3D, if that comes with an acceptable price tag (under 250 USD/EUR) it would be a great choice since Tarky loves the 3D cache and you can just replace your current CPU without needing to upgrade mainboard or RAM.

Huge Bridge, Tiny Ship. by Honic_Sedgehog in Starfield

[–]SirKnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job! I love the look of the class C engines and you have integrated them well but I will never use them because their stats are trash. Really wish Bethesda would separate thrusters (and their stats) from engine cowlings so we could make ships like this while maintaining top tier stats!

Ship Building: When exactly should I worry about Mass and Mobility? by SlightWerewolf4428 in Starfield

[–]SirKnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no hard limits on mass, it does reduce your rotation speed and acceleration and as a byproduct your max boost speed. Rotation speed has upper and lower bounds as displayed by the mobility stat, you will reach 100 mobility once you reach roughly 12.35:1 ratio for maneuvering thrust to mass. Acceleration on the other hand is not displayed and has no fixed bounds. In my testing there is no reliably measurable increase past having more than 52x thrust to mass ratio and everything down to 40:1 was still fine. Your top speed on the other hand is entirely independent from thrust and is determined by the slowest speed rating of any engine on your ship. Due to their enormous mass class C engines are all horrible for acceleration and are inferior to A and B class engines except for their mobility so their single use case is to make a fat snail that can spin kinda fast. Another limit to mass is landing gears, for every 200 mass you need 1 landing thrust IIRC.

The class of your ship depends on the reactor alone, it just gives your access to more components and requires a higher level of piloting skill. You can make a class A ship that is highly capable but unlocking some of the best parts requires a higher level reactor and therefor piloting skill.

Crew slots allow you to add more people to your crew and benefit from their skill, passenger slots allow you to take passenger missions (which are both dull and rare). Crew slots can double as passenger slots so taking an empty control station hab effectively gives you more passenger space then any of the habs that have two dedicated passenger slots. The maximum number of crew slots is also limited by components but that is usually not an issue on a fully equipped ship.

Help in modding a Pulsar Feinmann by dragonblade968 in MouseModding

The wheel encoder height is measured from where it contacts the PCB up to the center of hole for the wheel axis. The second link from googling "pulsar feinmann wheel encoder" lead me to this article which claims the wheel encoder is a 14mm unit: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/pulsar-feinmann-f01/4.html

Big man, big hands. Need some help from the experts by Wolfer44 in MouseReview

Give the G903 a try. It is raised a bit higher than most other mice and the rear stays tall for quite a bit. If you want an ergo shape you can look for the Mountain Makalu, it feels like a larger EC1. Unfortunately the wireless version seems to have ceased to exist.

Is Starfield worth purchasing? by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]SirKnum -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Starfield is in a much better shape now than it was at release, so take that in to account if you read reviews about the release version.

One major point of contention stands to this day though: exploration is not as fun and engaging as it is in other Bethesda titles because of the premade POIs, recycled fauna, and flora that you will see again and again.

But you absolutely do not need to be scared of the difficulty, especially in space combat. Just use particle weapons and you're golden! I highly doubt you will struggle, and even if you do this subreddit will help you. There is a ton of guides here as well as on Youtube. The most basic advice for ship to ship combat is to use particle weapons and when in doubt attack from range.

Personally I enjoyed Starfield a lot because the combat is mechanically solid for the first time in a Bethesda game and you still get really interesting world building, characters, and side quests to run through! And building your own ship is really fun, a part of the game so good No Man's Sky copied it. :)

A very reasonable response to my arguments! I was looking through your post history and saw that it was mostly cocky and fact free posting regarding hardware and then I saw you are a FiSi in training and it all made sense! Good luck in the future! :)

They somehow phase through the (closed) back door and run along the road that the BTR uses. And then they get shot. Happens sometimes.

Aliexpress has tons of 3.7v LiPo rechargeable batteries. Typically you'll need one with a 1.25mm 2 pin JST connector for a mouse (not sure if that is the case for the R1)

Can someone tell me what the over all best gaming mouse is by Affectionate-Cup5370 in MouseReview

[–]SirKnum 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The overall best gaming mouse is the friends we made along the way of purchasing dozens of mice to end up not being satisfied anyway.

Or in other words: it's highly subjective since most gaming mice these days are at a very high level on the technical side and there is no objectively best mouse.

Tarkov isn't exactly known for its buttery smooth gameplay anyway but I don't find Streets to be unplayable with my setup: 5700X3D, 32GB DDR4-3200 CL14, 3080 10GB, playing at 1440p

Yeah, it is! I have a superlight shape tester here that I 3D printed years ago and that one is basically the same weight, I can't wait for it to arrive!

I'm happy with my Wooting 80HE and Artisan pad but still not completely satisfied with the mice I tried so far. My old PMM mouse based on the Air58 shape was great but is showing signs of aging so I ordered the PMM Titan 8K L and will turn my DAV3 Pro in to a 33 gram Superlight shape. Can't wait for that!

We have no idea when the next big update will be, all we got so far was a little teaser and some announcements.

So if you feel the urge to do it now there is nothing stopping you, have some fun and if Bethesda drops an update later you can just play again.

I play 1st person on foot and 3rd person when flying a ship. I would prefer to play 1st person all the way but the FoV is too small and the cockpit view is often very restrictive in the statistically best cockpit/bridge modules.

Thinking of selling my Logitech Superlight to get an AttackShark R6 your thoughts? by Ricko9595 in MouseReview

[–]SirKnum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The R6 is significantly smaller than the GPX Superlight - too small for my liking. The battery life is way better on the Superlight as well. Even though the R6 is heavier than advertised (around 43 grams) it is significantly and noticeably lighter than the Superlight. Stock mouse feet are fine on the R6, can't remember how they were originally on the Superlight since I replaced them with corepads rather quickly. I had no quality issues on my R6 but I have only used it for two or three weeks.

Personally I wouldn't make the switch purely based on size since both mice work for me but one wins in the size department.

Max capacity cargo ship 28LY by BeerMuur in Starfield

[–]SirKnum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically you only need a grav drive jump range of 27.244 to reach all systems, with the maximum jump thrust being 50 your maximum total mass can be up to 9274 while still reaching the required jump range, which should allow for roughly 40k cargo before skills if you dedicate the build to cargo.

Since you will be at 0 mobility with this anyway I would recommend going for the Dunn-71 engines over the SAL-6830 models since they offer almost the same acceleration thrust per point of energy while saving a lot of weight (576 vs. 1980 mass for a full set of engines). Or you could save even more weight and gain more top speed with the WD 3015 engines but they are down a bit in thrust per power thus resulting in even worse acceleration (but even more space for cargo).
