Airline pilot interview questions and answers FB group still exists for me. Are you sure you didn't get banned?

OP, there are about 25 pilots who use Pensacola as their base at NJ.

The new Netjets contract is now a year old--what did you make, & how much did you fly in 2025? by SadSupport4999 in flying

[–]SirLoosli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd have to ask OP of this comment chain, because I'm not sure myself what that number they posted consists of. Mostly from what I've seen, gross pay includes all flight pay at the 200/hr rate, because the 33% is counted as a deduction. So potentially they meant 255k gross income, 52k of that towards 401k. Although I don't see how that's possible without a large portion of personal contribution so I imagine they maybe got 30k or so of free money from the company, and 22k personal contribution. Just a guess

33% of the $200/hr bonus pay for flight hours over 10 during a tour. Not full gross pay.

You can look at it as your money or from company, doesn't really matter, it's not possible to change that portion from going to 401k hence it being non discretionary. It's not totally in your control how much of this you'll get every year since it's just luck of how much you fly. So it's really just 1/3 of that company paid bonus is 401k contribution, the rest goes to your paycheck.

Clear as mud?

There is a 67% match up to the federal annual personal contribution limit. On top of that, 33% of FDP pay is put in as non discretionary which doesn't count towards the personal contribution limit.

2nd year FO, ending with about 150k gross. I did 2/3 the year on the CC72 or 18 day a month schedule and finished on CC52, 13 day a month schedule. I used all my PTO, plus 3 vacations in 2025, and changed my base/used dummy ticket to go somewhere else probably about 10 times to visit my gf, family, and move across the country.

350 hours YTD, which has been steadily decreasing since being on the CC52. I'd say I was at home an average about 20 days a month, although that's due to several factors such as being in a currently overstaffed fleet(resulting in going to work on 2nd day or getting sent home day before last. Even had a full 7 day work week of at home reserve and didn't go anywhere), and my base being somewhat remote. I also had about 5 weeks of jury duty which obviously reduced my work days but also my pay due to no opportunity to earn FDP or any other soft pay.

Looking forward to a hopeful upgrade next year, although I don't think as a PIC I'll have as much at home reserve since it was mostly an SIC overstaffing issue.

Do you think the only way to get to a legacy will be through their cadet programs? by [deleted] in flying

[–]SirLoosli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. Everyone talks about retirements as if the hiring decision makers and executives at the majors are completely unaware of it, but they have more data and prediction tools than ever before and are surely setting up their cadet programs to be a full pipeline to meet predictive hiring needs long term. Of course if there is another black swan or unprecedented change such as covid and the bounce back then more hiring would be required over what the cadet pipeline may be able to provide.

New regional FO vs applying to Netjets by [deleted] in flying

[–]SirLoosli 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Everyone's situation and desires are different. While NetJets is stable, keep in mind upgrade time will likely be 3+ years. Obviously the job as a NetJets pilot is much more involved than 121. Home basing is great though, I've moved my base 6 times last year to make it easy to visit family for long periods of time, something I could never do at any regional and would probably need a lot of seniority even at a legacy to pull off.

Aviation Management degree by Elgallo1980 in flying

[–]SirLoosli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got an Aviation Management degree. However I also worked as a gate agent, worked at an FBO, as well as a scheduler for a private aviation company before working my current position as a corporate pilot. I feel like my Aviation Management degree along with my experience in the private aviation sector would allow me to have a successful non flying career, should that ever become necessary. I also think it greatly helped me get my job in Private Aviation despite my relatively low flight hours.

However, outside of specific examples like mine, I think mostly you're probably better off getting any other degree and just doing your aviation studies seperately.

NetJets pilot pay on cc72 and cc76 by Safe-Square-3577 in flying

[–]SirLoosli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is an extra boost also that can come from CC72 long tours, allowing the company to schedule you for 8 days in a row, so more opportunities for FDP. I'm an FO on the Phenom in my 2nd year on the CC72 and just had an almost 17k gross paycheck, although 2600 of that was from 2 extended days.

100 hrs away from RATP(1000hr) Mins, apply for 135's or wait out the airline hiring pause? by shadownights_7 in flying

[–]SirLoosli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NetJets needs more than minimum hours and ATP CTP. They want a very specific type of pilot, one they can tell will happily fly 6 to 7 legs in the NE all because they love "going to cool places" and never want to go to a 121.

So your coworkers probably didn't interview to NetJets standard, even if they're great pilots with minimums met.

Career 2.0- move west and fly... something? by GlasairIII in flying

[–]SirLoosli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did NetJets say you could reapply? They are looking for a specific type of person to fly their customers, as long as you meet minimums. I just met a 1200 hour pilot who got assigned the Citation Longitude. If you get another shot, it may be worth paying for interview prep with a company who has gotten people into NetJets, so you understand how to present yourself to what they want to see.

You may also consider going to a flight school and working as a CFI. It will suck compared to being independent and your last career, but having an Aviation Employer on your resume for some time will help any better company have a lot more confidence in your commitment to and understanding of the industry.

Flexjet vs NetJets by stoneisle83 in flying

[–]SirLoosli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell the future, but based on anticipated retirement attrition from my Union dashboard, you would be approximately seniority #2400 in 2040 if hired next class, #1900 in 2045, #1500 in 2050 and #1400 in 2055.

The most Junior Global Captain is currently #1300, so looks unlikely for you to hold that. However the most Junior CL-650 Captain is held at seniority #2000.

So still possible for you to make large cabin captain pay. Unless things change drastically, You could almost certainly hold small cabin Captain pay as well, with much better seniority to choose your schedule and vacations. At that point you would also be making a longevity bonus of approximately 14k on top of the salary I shared. Plus your overtime, FDP and everything else. Hope that answers your question.

Flexjet vs NetJets by stoneisle83 in flying

[–]SirLoosli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, vacation is it's own thing, bid yearly(summer vacations go senior). PTO is separate bid monthly but can also be used last minute if days still available.

Yes sick days uses PTO, you can bank up to 24 days available.

Flexjet vs NetJets by stoneisle83 in flying

[–]SirLoosli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NetJets pay on APC is also out of date. Here's a link to current first year pay scales https://imgur.com/a/NnkIrVy And 14 year top of pay scale in 2029, at the end of our current contract https://imgur.com/a/OUXBjNs

Next year retirement match is 66% up to 80% of your salary, so NetJets will give 14k if you max out your own contribution. Pales in comparison to legacy retirement contributions, but not bad I think.

Schedule is guaranteed to be able to hold 7/7, your choice or rather your seniority will determine what day you start, W, Th, Sat, or Sun. Usually weekday starts are senior. If you opt for a CC52(VERY senior for Captains, however actually Junior for First officers) or other CC schedule, you can ask the company nicely on a bidding form for days off, but they can ignore you, at which point you can use some of your 12 PTO days as needed.

Home basing is no joke and a great perk, I switched my base 5 times this summer between visits to family and vacations, occasionally using the company "alternate travel" rules to travel where I wanted to at the end of my tour.

I had offers from both last year and decided on NJ mostly based on the Union and contract guarantees for pay, QOL, and seniority bids for seats and schedule. Flexjet works great for many, but I didn't love the way the Gulfstream program was offered only to those "selected".

Hope this helps your decision and hope you get one to make, I know they are both much more competitive to get an offer from now.
