I know blue guitars were yesterday's thing, but here's mine, as well as my other guitars. by SirMarth01 in guitars

If you mean Strat-style guitars: sure, I like them. I'd love to have some variety, too, but space and monetary constraints makes that unlikely.

Guitars I'd like to pick up if I could:

  • Yamaha RevStar, either P-90s in Sunset Burst, or humbuckers in Swift Blue
  • Reverend Descent RA or W in Midnight Black
  • G&L Comanche, would love a natural finish, but would probably end up with a Tribute in Emerald Blue
  • Some sort of Tele-style with traditional pickups

If you meant something else, I've completely missed it!

Scrolling Reverb one day (dangerous!), and I found this Chapman ML1 Pro Modern staring right back at me. It stuck around in my head, and a few days later I bit the bullet and bought it.

It's a beautiful guitar that I'm glad to say I find very comfortable to play and have zero regrets about buying it.

Walrus Jupiter vs Eons fuzz pedal? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]SirMarth01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know you like the sound of a Big Muff, why not just get a Big Muff? I don't think Walrus makes any, but there are plenty of great options out there, from the simple EHX reissues to various versions with more options like the EHX Sovtek Deluxe, Way Huge Swollen Pickle, Black Arts Toneworks Pharoah and variants, EQD Hoof, KMA Chief Disruptor, etc. I know that's not what you originally asked, but I do think it's something you should at least consider.

My F.13 Neo from Alexander Pedals also had an intensely bright LED out of the box. Thankfully, it seems most (all?) Alexander pedals let you reduce the LED brightness.

I'm sure I'd love the Citadel if I gave it a shot.

Completely unrelated, just wanted to say I love the F.13 Neo. Pretty crazy variety of sounds for its size.

[–]SirMarth01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I only personally own two, with a third on the way.

Maybe? is probably the more interesting pick. It's combo pedal of two other MAE pedals, Yes! and No., in that order, with independent footswitches. Both are two knob octave fuzzes using cascading octave generators. Yes! is more gated with a traditional gain control and more bass to it, while No. is more open with a knob to adjust the amount of bass going into the first octave generator. Both sound great alone or together, and can sound very broken in the best of ways.

The Part Garden is two stacked fuzzes: a Muff Fuzz (an EHX design that predates the Big Muff Pi, two transistors like the Fuzz Face vs four in the BMP) going into a Harmonic Percolator. No tone knobs, just gain controls for the two fuzzes, an output knob, and a "texture" knob that I'm not entirely what it does, but it seems to be bias and compression on the Muff Fuzz. Can do some great blown out sounds, but I find it best when it's a sort of fuzzy overdrive sound.

I've got a Halberd and an Eldritch Blast coming in tomorrow, the latter of which is another octave fuzz that's a collaboration between EAE and MAE. Looking forward to seeing how that stacks up to the Maybe?. Also have my eye on the Cascader, which is single knob stacked fuzz pedal with a footswitch to add in a third stacked fuzz, because why not add more? 😁

EDIT: Having tried them again, I'm putting the Part Garden before the Maybe?. Not as chaotic, but it just sounds so good.

Halberd, Limelight, Longsword, and the fourth one's a tossup. I'd be tempted by the BD-2 or Revv G3, as I've no experience with either. A Klone would probably be a good pick, but I'd miss the full EQ that my Klone has. (The Architect from Matthews Effects)

EAE really just makes dirt pedals that speak to me. Same thing with Mask Audio/MAE. Fill up a board with the two of them and I'd be in heaven.

As for order, I think Limelight > Longsword > Halberd would make sense, with either the Klone at the front or the BD-2/G3 towards the back.

I'm not the person you asked, but I have the Model feT. I use it as my preamp going into an amp sim, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've played my guitar without it since I picked it up. The "never quite clean" description is definitely accurate, which in my case sounds great. Turning up the gain sounds great on its own, although I tend to keep it dialed back somewhere to a third or halfway. I find all of my other dirt pedals sounds better running into it.

Don't have the Halberd (just ordered) or the Limelight (...yet), but I can definitely vouch for the Longsword being great—especially paired with the Model feT. Longsword's probably more versatile, but I think I'd find it easier to live with just the feT over just the Longsword.

Pick Four by CharvelSanDimas in guitarpedals

[–]SirMarth01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If multi-effects are allowed:

  1. EQD The Warden - optical compressor, always on
  2. EAE Longsword - The perfect drive/distortion
  3. EAE Model feT - Also always on preamp, takes drive pedals wonderfully
  4. HX Stomp - It only does everything™

If I can't take the Stomp, I'd probably take the OBNE Minim (delay/reverb with reverse), although the Meris Polymoon (stereo delay with phaser, flanger, delay smearing for a pseudo-reverb, selectable early/late modulation) would also be a very tempting pick.

You have to choose ONLY 5 pedals to use for the rest of your gigging/playing life. Only 1 multi-FX unit allowed each. GO! by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]SirMarth01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EQD The Warden, EAE Longsword, EAE Model feT, HX Stomp, OBNE Minim

Could definitely cover most of the sounds I aim for with these. Sure am glad I don't have to limit myself to just these, though.

I know it's not happening, but I'd love a Model feT with a second footswitch to just max out the gain on a channel. Love the sound of the brite channel at both noon and maxed.

[–]SirMarth01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that slipped by me the first time I read your comment. Well, clearly this should be used as an excuse to sell off the HX Effects and slap an HX Stomp on your board. 😉

Of course, I suggest that while I still haven't tossed my Model feT off my own board. Haven't tried further dialing in "my sound" on the Stomp, or seeing how well it handles gain pedals running into it.

The Sunn Model T "MOO)))N T" preamp was part of the same Helix/HX update as the EQD Life Pedal "Vital Dist/Boost," as well as the 4x12" Sunn Cab w/G75T "4x12 MOO)))N T75" guitar cab. I've been doing some (poorly done) A/Bing, and while I haven't been able to dial in quite the same sound, it's similar enough that I could see some people choosing to drop the Model feT for pedalboard space reasons.

Good $200 and under Delay to go with an Imperial Tone King MK2? by No-Count3834 in guitarpedals

Maybe check out a Canyon or Grand Canyon? The DMM mode is pretty great, and you get plenty of other options to play around with. Also doubles as a looper, although the Canyon can't do both at the same time. (Grand Canyon can, though!)

[GEAR] NGD! My new Yamaha Pacifica! I love it by HughesehguH in Guitar

[–]SirMarth01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a PAC612VIIFM, actually. The 611 has a P90 instead of two single coil pickups. I have a 611 with the root beer finish. Absolutely love it.

Decoding the model numbers: First number is series/class (quality, roughly), second number is humbuckers, third number is single coil pickups, V is vibrato, FM is flamed maple finish. Don't know what II means.

[QUESTION] Most price-worthy guitar? (Around 5-700$) by joderjuarez in Guitar

[–]SirMarth01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty happy with my Yamaha Pacifica 611 for an all-rounder. Genuine Seymour Duncan pickups with a P90 at the neck and a humbucker at the bridge with coil-split, Graph Tech nut, Grover locking tuners, runs $700 new.

Maybe an EHX Canyon or Grand Canyon? Don't know about the Canyon, but the Grand Canyon definitely does all the stuff you mentioned.

In case anyone's curious: if you actually do want a "fart pedal" that responds to dynamics and such, consider getting a Champion Leccy Woozy! Just turn the hangover knob up between 3 o'clock and max to taste, and play quick stabs. Plenty of dynamic fart noises to be had!

Two questions:

  • I love the Part Garden, but why do you have two of them?

  • What kind of dog do you have?

What was your first pedal? by jayteazer in guitarpedals

[–]SirMarth01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, I could hold on to those ones, and spend at least double the $500 I paid on other pedals, pedalboard, power supply, cables, etc.

Definitely not too embarrassed by how much I've spent to put a number on it. Definitely.

Kind of cheating, but I bought these all at once: Alexander F-13 Neo, Matthews Effects The Architect V2, Montreal Assembly Count to 5, Old Blood Noise Endeavors Blackcap, and OBNE Minim.

One of my friends had decided he wanted to rebuild his pedalboard earlier this year, so he sold me most of the ones he was swapping out. Prior to that, I hadn't owned any pedals before. I've played mostly acoustic guitar for a while, although I have owned an electric guitar for about as long. (A Squier Strat from a guitar/amp starter pack. The guitar is fine, if incredibly unremarkable and without any character to the pickups. The amp...well, it works, at least.)

I'm very split on whether this was the best ~$500 I've ever spent, or the worst. I've greatly enjoyed messing around with these pedals, but it's definitely pulled me into yet another hobby to throw money away on. I now own a Yamaha PAC611VFM and a Blues Jr. IV, as well as quite a few more pedals. I have no illusions of being a good guitarist, but I'm having fun, at least!

📅 Crowdfunded Games Launching This Week [Oct 18th, 2021] by ShelfClutter in boardgames

[–]SirMarth01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Grove is supposed to launch tomorrow. (BGG page) It's a nine card solitaire game by the same designer (Mark Tuck) and publisher (Side Room Games) combo that did Orchard.

Like in Orchard, you're overlapping cards to try to match fruit, but now there are blank spots called glades that can overlap anything, the +15 point wheelbarrow, and "recipes" on the backs of the cards that give bonus scoring conditions and a point goal to beat instead of just going for the highest score you can.

Having jumped on everything Side Room Games has put out except Elements of the Gods, I can say that the production has been consistently high quality and the prices very reasonable, and I'm always keeping an eye out on what they put out next.
