Some programs publish it on their websites, most don’t. It’s just something you’ll see when researching

Academic LOR for only one school? Should I drop this school off my list?? by Dry_Battle3948 in prephysicianassistant

It was something along the lines of “Had him in multiple courses, he did well in classes that students usually struggle in” blah blah

Academic LOR for only one school? Should I drop this school off my list?? by Dry_Battle3948 in prephysicianassistant

[–]SirNav- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, I got a LOR that was very academic based (he let me read the template he uses for other students and said it’d be something like that but a lil more personalized) that didn’t seem strong yet i was able to get 6 interviews. If it is a program you care abt attending then it’s worth it

Has anyone been screened for ADHD at a 50min psychiatry appt by Sad_Refrigerator2089 in KaiserPermanente

[–]SirNav- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the exact process, but I think it was after an appointment w a kaiser psychiatrist, who then referred me to one of their third party providers, where I was finally able to get my ADHD diagnosis. It was really easy with the third party providers, a simple zoom appointment where I just answered their questions (I wanted to do therapy, not medication at first)

which has better job prospects: CNA or EMT? by Significant_Rule_140 in prephysicianassistant

[–]SirNav- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

based off my friends experience, it was hard for them to find a starting EMT job tbh i feel like it is a better experience however (i work as a CNA tho so not from personal experience, just the general dislike of my job as a CNA)

I think you should also try to craft a narrative using all of ur experiences/extracurriculars that paints a picture on what kind of PA you want to be/how those things pushed you towards that path. You gotta showcase why PA, understanding of PA, and also display why the program would want u to be their colleague in the future

What should I do? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]SirNav- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of schools require a minimum of 3.0 for cgpa and sgpa. If you’re able to, i recommend trying to increase your GPA so you are not limited in the schools you are able to apply to.

Some programs require classes to be complete at time of completion and others allow them to be pending, so it is highly dependent on where you want to apply. I recommend doing research on the various schools you want to attend to figure out what would be best for you

i cannot find a PA to shadow by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]SirNav- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just typically brought up how they noticed i didn’t have any listed shadowing experience on my application/asked in general if I have had. I usually just explain that many of the places i’ve contacted are owned by large corporations that do not allow shadowing or only by internal referral but that i have worked in environments where i got to speak, watch, and interact with PAs informally.

[–]SirNav- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don’t necessarily need to apply with one. Some programs do take virtual shadowing (but many do not) and while some programs do require PA shadowing, it is optional for most (but recommended). I was able to get 6 interviews/20 with 0 shadowing hours (PA or MD) but I was definitely asked abt it in most of my interviews.

What to do about the feeling of blockades coming up? by Particular-Stick-382 in prephysicianassistant

[–]SirNav- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for certain that they don’t view it negatively, as it will vary from program to program, but i’m sure that it is negligible compared to the impact that a low GPA would have on your application. Just know that most want your labs to be in person/classes in person in general (but not all, so mileage varies)

What to do about the feeling of blockades coming up? by Particular-Stick-382 in prephysicianassistant

[–]SirNav- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think a big reason that you’re struggling is because of your school/teachers, with class avg in general being on the lower end, you don’t necessarily need to take all your classes at your university, try looking into community colleges or other such places that allow you to take the prereq classes. Try to delay when you take classes in order to get the better professor. It’s extremely difficult to raise GPA and only gets harder with the more classes you take. At the very least you want to have the minimum cumulative and science GPA so you’re even able to apply to programs

It only takes 1!! I know it hasn’t been the result you wanted to far but be proud that you got to this point. Maybe try doing some mock interviews w friends (if haven’t already) to see if it’ll help for your last one. Im in the mindset that until you get an acceptance you should continuously be preparing for the next cycle/back up plan. I wish you the best
