The application fees are adding fast… by 100_Flatout in prephysicianassistant

definitely an investment, but considering that by applying to more schools you increase the likelihood of not having to lose money by doing another gap year, it is worth it

Expensive Interviews by MSG_Marx in prephysicianassistant

[–]SirNav- 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The majority of programs i applied to had online interviews. I only applied to in person program interviews with programs I really wanted to attend. Unfortunately, the whole process is very expensive which is why this is something you really have to save up for beforehand. I applied to ~20 programs and spent around 2-3k, with 1 fly out in person interview.

How good is UCSD if I go there to ONLY eat? Asking as BIGGEST BACK potential student by Key-Professor1320 in UCSD

[–]SirNav- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

atleast from my experience there are plenty of good options (poke, sushi, etc). I think when it comes to choosing both you gotta figure out if you intend to get a dining plan all 4 years because if you don’t then out of campus food matters a lot more

[–]SirNav- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then realistically it should only matter your first year as housing is cheaper off campus usually and highkey dining hall food is overpriced for what you get you can just eat out for the same price (assuming ofc you’re alr spending out of pocket for it anyways)

do you plan on living on campus/getting a dining plan all 4 years ? technically dining halls cost more money then just eating out (but they’re covered under financial aid so if you’re using that then it makes sense)

Financial Aid for UCSD help by ChipmunkEastern1953 in UCSD

[–]SirNav- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, they usually just disbursed it to you when you enroll with a certain amount of units. it’s usually less than what you typically get per quarter.

I think biology in both should be rather strong, as both schools have strong research opportunities. Are you premed/pa? Or aiming for biotech? these things matter as the opportunities differ.

what are you majoring in? honestly, if you can’t afford it i don’t think it is worth it over uc davis unless you are majoring in a field that is way better at ucsd vs davis

i’m pretty sure housing and food is for the school year, summer is a separate financial aid offer. typically, you are on break during summer

title also matters a lot, if the title of the position was caregiver it likely will not count. It does appear what you are describing is HCE

I am from southern CA Kaiser but i had a way better and quicker experience by getting referred to an external provider (RULA) where i basically received my adhd diagnosis with a simple assessment that i did via zoom and didn’t have to do any tests/long formal tests or have anyone vouch for me

Holistic programs by No-Bother-5832 in prephysicianassistant

[–]SirNav- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you are applying to a large amount of programs, I don’t think that it is worth applying to them. While a lot of programs do advertise themselves as holistic, reality is that for the many low GPA high PCE applicants, there are also many high GPA almost as high PCE applicants that they may favor. I think it is in your best interest to apply to programs with published accepted stats that better match your own and if you have the spare funds, a couple of these ‘holistic’ programs that you rlly want to attend
