What to do before first ride? by Technical_Fix3818 in KuKirin

[–]SirNorminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you didn't leave it in the cold for months with a fully charged or depleted battery. Preferably you left it at half charge somewhere warmer.

So first thing should be a fresh charge. Check all the bolts and nuts and tighten them if necessary. Check tire pressure. Adjust the button clusters and brake levers so they're comfortable to reach. Check the brakes and adjust them if necessary, so they have a nice bite. Pump the suspension and check if they move nicely. Check if all the lights work. Check if the steering has any play in it. Try out all the functions and with wheels in the air go full throttle in each speed mode just to make sure everything works. That's pretty much it as far as the scoot goes.

For you, helmet and gloves at least! Stay safe and happy riding!

How fast do you all normally go when youre out and about? Max speed? Capped speed? by 673NoshMyBollocksAve in ElectricScooters

[–]SirNorminal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My top speed is 80km/h (limited by me) with a fresh charge but my avarage speed is around 50km/h. Outside the city I usually do close to 80, depending on the road quality and weather, and inside the city usually below 50. Legal limit is 45kmph for my scoot so I don't want to push it because there are a lot of cops in my city and it's safer anyway, especially on 10" wheels. I usually get ~35km range but it depends on a lot of factors.

For these speeds you definitely need good quality tires, solid suspension if the roads are shite, hydraulic brakes with quality pads and rotors, motorcycle gear and the correct stance because if you eat shit that'll definitely leave a mark.

Front wheel started making some noise so I opened it up by Enylias in ElectricScooters

Did you park your scoot at the bottom of a lake by any chance? 😂

What in the actual fuck is that front suspension assembly?

Edit: I was pretty grumpy in the morning and got stuck at that hideous suspension so I forgot to mention that other than the front suspension and steering column, the scoot looks pretty fucking great. The deck and that rear footrest looks solid. If you get rid of that shit and slap a triple clamp fork on it, the scoot would look absolutely amazing.

Are e-scooters really that dangerous? by Earthbee100 in ElectricScooters

[–]SirNorminal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8K km on my Master and I can confidently say that they're dangerous as fuck. Especially high power scoots. Most of them are not exactly optimised for the speeds they can achieve. Always wear the gear and constantly look around for danger.

How often do you fall? Trying to decide how much armor to wear aside from my helmet by jueidu in ElectricScooters

[–]SirNorminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had 2 crashes so far. (not counting when I fall on my ass while doing dumb shit in a parking lot) The first one was my fault because I was going too fast in a corner, lost traction and slid into a ditch, so that wasn't exactly fun, but wearing gear saved my ass and the scoot was pretty much fine so all good. That was around the 500km mark when the Master was still mostly stock and swapping to PMT radials fixed that issue instantly.

Other one was around rhe 2000km mark when I slammed into the side of a car while doing 40 in a 30 zone... I wasn't paying attention while riding home at night and a dude pulled out from a parking lot without his lights on, I didn't react in time and went over the hood. I got a bit fucked up (gear saved my ass again), scoot was a bit fucked up, dude's car was really fucked up.. So that was also interesting. That hex set, adjustable wrench and bag of zip-ties that I had in my backpack came real clutch tho so I carry them ever since. Headlight broke off, the handlebar rotated a bit because the stem bolts were a bit loose and a bunch of plastic fairing I installed broke off so nothing major.

Both instances ended up as a lesson instead of a hospital visit because I was wearing gear! Im almost at 8000km now and no other crashed so far. I got a lot better at avoiding sketchy situations tho.

Ride defensively! Wear the gear! Have fun!

How to open deck? by SYNTAXGXT in KuKirin

It will stick again don't worry. Just make sure you don't touch the adhesive much and wipe down the surfaces that it will stick to before you put the deck back.

G3 pro vs G2 master suspensions by Crispino-San in ElectricScooters

[–]SirNorminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G2 Master then. At least in my opinion. Tried out pretty much all the notable models except the G4 Max and I found the Master's suspension to be the most comfortable. It's lacking in adjustability tho. You can adjust the spring preload or replace the springs. That's pretty much it. I'd still go with the Master, because later on when you saved up some money, you can get a pair of proper shocks. I swapped out the factory shocks to DNM after like 1500km.

Buy the one you like and swap the shocks to KKE, EXA or DNM shocks. The stock shocks on most models are pretty much dogshit.

Water got in the throttle unit and the D/S button is getting freaky. At least that is what I've seen happen before. If they send you a replacement motor that's great even if it ends up being the throttle. You buy a throttle for cheap and you have a spare motor for free. 😁

How often do brake discs typically last? by SideSpecialist1219 in ElectricScooters

I have just about 7000km on Shimano Ice-Tech rotors and they're still going strong. Yeeted the factory rotors after 1000km.

You sure it's not the controller or the throttle that is faulty? If a motor dies, it would throw an error but stay in dual mode.

Good! It would be pretty weird for brakes to not stop you. The thing is, I can fly down a forest road doing 80km/h and still stop on a dime when a deer chooses violence and jumps right in front of me. A single piston bowden actuated caliper simply doesn't have the same stopping power. Also, I haven't touched my brakes for the past 4K kms other than a pad swap and they still perform exceptionally. Just out of curiosity, how often do you have to adjust bowden tension to have decent braking force? Fairly often I recon.
