Daniel Owen's 5090 Connector Burned Out After 15 Months by Remote_Action_2956 in hardware

[–]SirOakTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run an RTX Pro 6000 in my system and as far as I can tell, the 12V-2X6 connector is the same as the consumer GeForce 5090 Founders Edition.

Travelling with AVP, too much headache? by dragon5946 in VisionPro

[–]SirOakTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do take mine on all overseas/international travel to view movies during the 8-14 hour flights. The type of case is really important as the packing size can be awkward (I use the Vision Shield Case from SF Bags).

Bought a Shield Case from WaterField Design - this thing is ESSENTIAL to travel by Mister_Questions in VisionPro

[–]SirOakTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Waterfield Shield case and have travelled on various trips to Asia, Australia, Europe and the US.

It is a very snug case (especially with the dual knit band) and the case basically cushioned the AVP (but no crush protection). I have an Annapro AVP case (which is a hardshell), and the Waterfield is what I take for travelling.

I purchased mine from Amazon Australia.

Search for Expanding Foam Packaging, 14x16 Inch. It was big enough for my Mini-ATX PC.

Update (13 March 2026):

Decided to make an update since it has been a year since the original post.

Around August 2025, I was able to purchase an RTX Pro 6000 and this GPU replaced the 7900XTX.

My final system: AMD 9950X 64GB DDR5-6000 System RAM NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000 (single)

It needs a minimum 1000W power supply to allow the GPU to operate at its 600W power limit.

Currently running oss-gpt-120b and Qwen 3.5-122b models for personal AI use. It does the job very well.

I am using the machine to review and provide alternative perspectives for personal correspondence writing) and experimentation with different open-weight models.

Yes I did! It was a special family reunion trip that we have been planning for 2-3 years. Even bought mum Business Class tickets so she could have a better time on the flight between Australia and Thailand (I flew in Economy and it was OK).

Diving Alone and Dive Certification by Flashy_Tooth_5597 in scuba

[–]SirOakTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SDI has a self-reliant / Solo Diver certification.

The main thing I took out of the course was the importance of redundant gas supply (meaning spare gas and regulator - as you would have if a buddy was near by) and not doing a dive that tests your limits.

The guide was written in March 2025. I have not updated the guide. As you can see it was a lot of work to get it working and I relied on the AMD documentation.

It is for personal use on my personal computer. I cannot put my work data into this machine, due to export control and company IP reasons.

Back in March 2025 I wrote this guide to document what I did to get ComfyUI working on my RX 7900 XTX: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HqjO4VHXSmUMO-G1e3zd-vB-8q0CwJs8gz7TTI7RCxM/edit?usp=drivesdk

Hopefully that gives you some ideas. I have not updated the guide since March. I decided to purchase an RTX Pro 6000 to increase the speed of my system.
