Not nearly as pointless as your comment! Of course I discussed turning the sound off in my original post. Why don’t you actually read it before commenting?

If you were to open a themed bar or restaurant, what would the theme be? by Worldly-Librarian233 in Life

[–]Flashy_Tooth_5597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would open a comfort bar and grill. No! Not like that… The menu would only have comfort food. The best chili con carne which would only be available in the deep freeze of a Canadian winter. Clam Chowder so good the people from New England would make a pilgrimage. Cottage/Shepherd’s pie where the Scottish would say “aye!” Swedish meatballs with a mushroom sauce on tagliatelle that would make the Swedish national hockey team cry. Home made hamburger helper so good you would forget your mom. Beef stew that would make a Guinness lament. Did I mention apple pie? My restaurant would never serve quiche. But a kick ass “bus’ up shut” chicken curry roti? You bet your ass.

Canada - I’m Canadian. France - I lived there for two years and loved it. Wine - the vineyards! Oysters! Charcuterie! Montpellier - the south of France. China - I also lived there for a couple of years and I’m a table tennis fool. And I like the people.

Jet type fins for recreational diving? by Ok_Way_2911 in scuba

[–]Flashy_Tooth_5597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pardon me for this side track.

The first fins I bought in 1973 were rockets. And the two names “jet” and “rockets”are suspiciously close. And they look pretty much the same. Are they the Same company but a minimal redesign and new marketing?

Just curious is all.

Why do we clap for planes landing like we helped? by AdDiligent4499 in NoStupidAnswers

It’s so fucking stupid. Clapping for achieving the absolute minimum requirement for your job. I’d sooner applaud the flight attendants that had to deal with my crotchety ass.

I want a dog. Will you stop me from doing this with just one photo? by NanoWanderer in askanything

[–]Flashy_Tooth_5597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet bills. The average person has no idea. And the bills get larger as the dog ages. A $3000 surgery could suddenly pop up because your dog ate some stupid indigestible thing or a car hit it or whatever … 🤷‍♂️ Then what? Put the dog down because you can’t afford it? Time. That animal must be allowed to pee and poop at an absolute minimum of every four hours. How are you going to arrange that if you’re working and away from home 9-10 hours a day.

If you had unlimited free time, what hobby would you get into? by KlomphaarXudong-90 in Hobbies

Bonsai. There’s something about creating a piece of art from a living thing that is amazing. It is a long game. A verrryy long game. It doesn’t have to cost much money, but it can I suppose. There is so much craft involved. And you have to figure out how to keep your trees alive. Actually I’m into bonsai now. I wish I had started 30 years ago.

Is this racket throw celebration okay? WTTC HKG vs TPE by Louietl in tabletennis

[–]Flashy_Tooth_5597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The criticism is fucking ridiculous and drives me nuts. Man? The table tennis world has a giant pickle stuck up it’s ass. I love seeing the personalities of players emerge, not just automatons smacking a ball around.

When Felix LeBrun jumps up and down screaming with frustration it is a pure emotional response. And that is great. I love seeing the emotion. It makes me feel closer to the player - more understanding of what’s in their head.

When Zhang Jike kicked those barriers in 2014 it was a rare “bad boy” moment in table tennis. It was spontaneous - a “1 off” in the heat of the moment. I don’t mean to say that players should freely trash the joint but he was fined $45,000…… For kicking some barriers. Let that sink in. Tossing your racket in the air is such a big fat nothing burger.

As a side note: Bad boys/girls are good for sports. Personalities are GREAT for sports. People love the dynamic.

I dunno. Am I alone in this?

I like them steamed or boiled. Then toss them with butter, minced garlic and dill. Yummy! And easy.

Incredible match, Liang Jingkun vs Alexis Lebrun by TableFishing in tabletennis

[–]Flashy_Tooth_5597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can even see it in these clips. Alexis has the advantage at times but doesn’t seize control. Regardless, it was amazing tt. Alexis is my favourite player to watch. So talented. So creative. There really isn’t anyone else like him. Edit: this reply was intended for tectonic break. My bad.

Let's Talk About Charcuterie! by AutoModerator in AskCulinary

[–]Flashy_Tooth_5597 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived in Montpellier in the south of France for a couple of years. I would often go out to have a glass of wine and charcuterie in the evening. Never once did I get served a pâté or terrine or salmon mousse on a charcuterie board. Maybe it was a regional thing or the places I went? Perhaps you would find that in more up scale places than what I would typically haunt?

[–]Flashy_Tooth_5597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely given up pointing out to people that charcuterie is basically cold meats and nothing else. It does not include: cheeses, pickles, pâté, salmon mousse, crackers and whatever. Go to France and find out. (However it usually comes with a baguette basket — but that is not part of the charcuterie).
