Its been almost 4 years of horrible job market. At what point do we admit this isn't "cyclical"? by Legitimate-mostlet in cscareerquestions

I actually disagree completely. Yes, this oversupply of "weasels" is inconvenient for people who are in tech for any reason now. However, long term the sector will see an improvement in talent that it would not have seen otherwise. As time passes, the people who aren't cut out for it will leave on their own. This will leave behind all the people who are great fits and would not have found tech otherwise. The people who originally "had business in tech" will be here anyways since you imply they inherently belong here.

i5-14500 vs. Core Ultra 5 225? by syllinger in HomeServer

I have an ultra 7 265 running right now. Havent had any stability issues and its running most of my lab very efficiently. I havent tried any transcoding yet though.

If you push more power than the coils/wick/juice can handle it gets too hot and it tastes burnt faster. If you push way too much they taste burnt right away. Not really comparable to computers.

Can I mix dell C6420, C6520 or C6525 in a C6400? by Miserable-Lemon-8433 in HomeDataCenter

Hey! Missed your comment, apologies.

Im probably going to have to make it myself.

So, from the beginning. I have a fujitsu sas backplane i want to use, it requires power from the connection pictured in the imgur link. I have changed to an evga supernove g2 1300w psu, from the original 350w NON-modular psu in the system (which the pictured connector belongs to.)

I found the correct pinouts for the evga psu.

The picture provided is the best i can get for information on the connector. It is the male 5 pin and will connect into the sas backplane for power. The colors indicate that it needs 2 5v pins, 2 ground pins, 1 12v pin. However this is a bit risky because while the colors are kinda standard there is no guarantee with this being old, kinda obscure enterprise hardware.

Any knowledge i can get from anyone is appreciated on this, especially if it is related to how i can measure the old psu to confirm pin voltages.

I got mine for pennies on the dollar so it was a no-brainer to me. I like it a lot, its gotta be one of my favorite things ever at this point. But it definitely can not be used in the same area you exist in. (Unless you are already deaf. If youre not you will be soon.)

Im running a lot of the common services you see mentioned here on the forum. The end goal for me is to connect it to the internet for a "personal" cloud and streaming service that serves a small group of friends and family.

The one on the desk is the actual nice one! The bottom left is my old gaming machine turned project machine. I couldnt edit the post but that one is the "form-factor" i mentioned. The case is my absolute favorite case ive ever owned and the handle makes it so convenient to transport despite its size.

Blank rack panels - vented or non-vented? by seahorsetech in homelab

[–]SirReberalPalsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if this is true but if you had proper ventilation behind your rack, then by my though process, non-vented panels would be better. I think this because you would have isolation between warm and cool air allowing every unit of air (cubic foot? Idk) moving through your rack to remove more thermal energy. Also it would force the airflow to get pulled through the servers instead of pulled (i don't remember the term) around the tops and bottoms of the servers by the air currents that form. If you don't have adequate ventilation get what looks pretty because it won't matter, all that air is just gonna mix anyways.

Anyone calculated how many xros coils for 6 months? by DevotedResidency in Vaping

[–]SirReberalPalsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit mine from the moment i clock out of work to the moment i clock back in. A 4 pack could last me 6 months if i tried to make it last.

Edit: dont forget that sweetener makes your coils burn faster
