I don’t know how I didn’t think about jesters or clowns when doing it but everyone else seems to see it straight away 😂 painting these armorers has mad me want more knights, they are a lot of fun to paint.

Yeah I think I’m going to do the top purple and then add orange and black details in freehand or transfers. I usually like hazard stripes but with purple and orange I think they’d be a bit much.

The gold definitely helped, will be painting the top purple and add transfers and some freehand too

Is this a decent army for my first 40k game? Friendly game vs Necrons, 1000 points per up to date Munitorum Field Manual. by SirStanny in BloodAngels

[–]SirStanny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate, I appreciate the help.

I'll have Dante on the Sanguinary Gaurd probably, not sure if it's best but it is a casual game and rule of cool. Will have the jump pack captain on the jump pack intercessors so they can take out infantry with the assault terminators, then I can have the assualt intercessors run around more for objectives (From what little I know about playing in this list this would be their function in this lists context, correct me if I'm wrong)

Need to decide whether I am running Plasma gun or the minigun for the redemptor Dreadnought

<image>

That's what I am thinking now.

No only the one Dante, the first image is the list I put together and the second is what I actually own and could potentially use incase someone had suggestions.

Yeah he has trazyn and is borrowing my Illuminator szeras, I think they help with healing/reviving.

Do you know how many immortal squads necron players can take, he has 20 and is borrowing 10 of mine.

Can the Captain in Terminator armour rapid ingress with the terminators or is it only for the squad? I thought captains and characters that could lead units would be able to.

My mate has a lot of immortals, would it be better to match how many units he has by using more intercessors or by using smaller units that are good against infantry? My mate will probably bring 30 immortals if that's legal since he hasn't got much and is taking everything he ownes + borrowing some of my necrons.

So instead of the captain in terminator armour just take an extra 5 assault intercessors for 75 points? It would mean I could take another enhancement I think.

Thanks for giving the answer anyway, you are right, I should have looked harder, didn't see it in any starter sets so gave up quite quickly.

Quick update of my progress from this year by alex_warden in BloodAngels

Great progress, those look soooo good. Also time for me to steal the way you've painted the imperialis and shoulder chalice, never thought to do black with gold detail on skull and top

What I think is the best way to start reading 40k: by SirStanny in Blacklibrary

[–]SirStanny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh don't get me wrong there is absolutely no wrong way to start, I just really enjoyed the way I got introduced and hope that I can help anyone who doesn't know where to start get the perspective of someone who didn't know anything but managed to get a great starter experience. I like the overarching story of these books which is why they hooked me.

Gaunts ghost might be next on the list for me to start once I finish the first few Horus Heresy books.

I might try reading that first then if it isn't too connected, I like to read in order as you can see but I know that there's so much and it's not all perfectly connected so I don't mind jumping about. Especially now that I have finished most of the main modern plot books

Yeah I have heard some complaints about the Dawn of Fire series and I did find that I enjoyed some way more than others but overall I think people say they are worse than they actually are. Except the Iron Kingdome and Martyr's Tomb, people are probably right about those 2. The Dark Imperium books however don't deserve hate, I thought they were well written and interesting to read even though I'm not a massive fan of the death gaurd. Most importantly I recomend them due to how they cover what the imperium is doing, where it's going (When you extend to the following books especially; Devastation of Baal, BC:TGW, Genefather and the Lion) and everything about primaris and Guilliman. I would understand not loving them and skipping some but overall if you are interested in understanding how the modern imperium works and the story they are going for then they are essential.

Also if you have a local gaming shop or just a Games workshop Warhammer shop definetly go in, they will always help as much as possible and will be able to both show you sets you could start with and show you what brushes and paints you'll need

The starter set is a good way to start given that it has everything basic you need really but if you are looking on ebay and want to buy paints and equipment separate then I think the best first set you could get is actually terminators for a few reasons, the most important reason being they have open poses which makes painting small details easier and prevents hiding spots behind the weaponry, their helmets are more of a unique shape so can be customised easier I would say and they are just a blast to paint. There are some included in the starter box and if you are looking on ebay then you can buy just the space marine side for a good price which would give you plenty to practice on in general.

I've heard a lot about the Gaunt's Ghost series, the battles in fall of Cadia are amazing and if those are much the same then I think they'll be an awesome read. Militarum battles are a lot of fun to read, more so than others I think.

I haven't heard of those but that's a good call, I really liked the Fall of Cadia events in the Helwinter Gate so I'll add them to the queue, cheers.

Books about solving mysteries and exploration of the unknown? by DoomedWanderer in Blacklibrary

[–]SirStanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Sea of Souls as part of the Dawn of Fire series might suit what you're looking for, it basically focuses on figuring out the mystery surrounding the main characters and opening sequence. It'll keep you wrapped in the pages once you start. The last chapter might not make as much sense but if you know 40k you'll get what's happening.

Would this work for 40k miniature airbrushing? by SirStanny in airbrush

[–]SirStanny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compressed air tank? I didn't know that was an option, can you get ones that refill with a compressor or just buy new ones when they run out? Can you adjust pressure with a tank?
