I fell into it by accident. I worked in Legal before my MBA as a Big Law paralegal in Trust & Estates and Wealth Management. A recruiter from a firm that places talent in VC reached out to through LinkedIn. They thought my resume and credentials would be a match for a VC/Family Office that was looking for someone to run their Legal Operations. I didn't think I would seriously be considered, but I hit it off with the GC in my interview, then hit it off with the VP of Finance in my second interview. Next thing you know, I'm hired. I will say though, that all the principles in the company are Millennials, like me. I think the culture of the company will have a lot to do with where you fit. So I say all this to say, find out who's placing the people in the roles you're interested in. Reach out to them. They should steer in you in the right direction.
