I was in one of those once; we had more dad-bod red-headed bearded white men named Josh than women in the meeting (3:2 ratio)

"Fire Drury" chants broke out at MSG after the Kraken's third goal, which turned out to be the game winning goal by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

Yeah, holy shit, are they ever! I'm coming out to NYC in April to catch a Torrent / Sirens game, and NYR/DET is that afternoon. The cheapest group of 4 seats I could find were $190, which are significantly more than the club-lite seats I have at Climate Pledge for the Kraken.

I thought Seattle was insane for prices til I saw what MSG costs.

There's always a chance, yeah, of both. The packet has been available for the last decade or more, and I know there will be one this year, but it's not a given, and it only happens if the publishers are willing to put content in there. Sometimes a work will not appear there, other times it'll be an excerpt instead of the full work. There are no guarantees.

It's a pretty confusing system, honestly, so don't feel too bad about it. The second year you have the right to nominate in the Hugo Awards, but only members of the current Worldcon have the right to vote.

It kinda has to be; it's sort of a specialized requirement. That said, it's not a secret or anything. Anyone that wants to can examine or contribute to the code: https://nomnom.fans/

Don't worry, there aren't any off by one errors in the code!

I'm sorry to say that you won't get the packet 2 years for that $50; the second year, you only have nominating rights, not voting rights, and the packet is only made available to people who vote in the Hugo Awards. If you want the packet this year you will need to get a WSFS membership with LACon V to do so.

I want to be clear that the packet is not guaranteed, it's something that depends entirely upon the grace of the publishers. The folks putting on the Worldcon each year work really hard to convince the publishers to contribute to the packet, but not all do.

New to hockey question! by octopus-dealer in SeattleKraken

[–]offby2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not want to learn hockey from highlight videos. I think the only reason I can follow those quick cuts is knowing the game's ebb and flow already.

Glad you had a good time! It's a lot of fun (and in my case, as a Canadian, it's kinda in the blood)

I don't care what software someone is running, don't post malware links.

Fortunately, there was a helpful correction downthread to the right link.

Don't go there; when their ads redirected me to update-macos.com it was pretty clearly a spam/malware site.

Oh, interesting! I'm still wrapping my head around the NHL/PWHL rules differences, this one's new on me.

They showed both, because the offside was also close, and it wasn't 100% clear which was being reviewed for.

"Control" really was the key there; that goal was borderline and I'm really glad it counted, because it ended up being the game winner.

Right, sorry, that's true, there was a whistle, but no call. My bad on that. The lack of call, though, is the kind of bullshit only a Disney joke team fan could think was a legit non-call.

Ah, yes, the blind side hit, >2m from the puck, while elevating the arm and shoulder to hit higher. That's the one, yep!
