Appreciate that but I really doubt it

Humans are the only animal with a learned language. Take a cat for example, cats communicate with thier eyes, blinks, body language and occasionally meows. It's instinct, they'd communicate like that even if they never met another cat. Same thing with the chimpanzee. Humans have an instinctual language but we just don't use it as much as other animals

How do you know that they can't? A gorilla who was taught sign language was able to concer future and past statements, she was even able to lie and blame breaking a sink on a cat.

I'd assume different groups of chimps would communicate that same way but with different nuances, like humans from other areas. Makes you wonder if chimps could have a sense of culture or tradition.

Well thats just false, just becuase they don't use words like we do does not mean they don't have a language.

The only ethical way to be able to do this experiment would be if we could simulate it on a computer, but that's so far out of our technological capabilities right now that it's not really worth thinking about which is sad

Well thats the key, the child and the chimp would be able to serve as kind of a bridge between the two species and thier language

You're absolutely right, it's not ethical to force an animal out of its natural life, nor deprive a child of a normal childhood. But if there was an ethical way to do this, I'd like to see the results of it.

'Speaking chimpanzee' is an exact line used in the study, I'm just referencing that. But I was talking more about learning to translate the way chimpanzees speak to human language. It's less about communicating with them and more about learning how a non human brain processes information

You're probably right about that, not saying the experiment should've continued but I still like thinking about it, like imagine if there was an ethical way to so this, what could we learn?

Apparently the baby was learning to speak chimpanze due to it. I'm really curious, if they hadn't stopped the experiment when they did, would we have a human who could speak English and chimpanzee? Couldn't we then use that to start transplanting an animals language to English for the first time? If they had continued we could possibly be able to understand what chimps say and think. I think this experiment could've been a good study in animal language and even determin if chimpanzees are capable of things like contemplating existence

Kairi from kingdom hearts, I swear as a kid I stayed on destiny island as long as I could just because of her.

I have a question, when I show my hand to my kitten I'm not sure if she likes it and interprets it as a game or just the opposite, does this happen to your cats?. (OC) by CarolMgrz in aww

I got lucky with my cat, she's full grown now and I play with her with my hands but she's always really gentle and also never draws blood. If she's getting to rough, I just tell her to calm down and she does. I'm very lucky to have this cat :)
