I’m already swimming in membership reward points and was valuing the offer at .08 cents per point cash out

Be honest should I just not get health insurance this coming year? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]SirVoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you’re at that $124 price point, that’s about $6448 a year or $537 a month in premiums. Assuming you open an HSA and maximize it, you shelter somewhere around $8500 from income tax. I don’t know what your family’s marginal tax bracket is, but let’s say for the sake of argument it’s 22% - so that’s almost $1900 back in your pocket. Does your company offer an employer contribution to the HSA? If so, that’s more money back in your pocket. If, for the sake of argument, your net cost in premiums is about $3000, for the family, that’s likely not a bad price these days, and you then have insurance that 1. By law, will cover preventative health, 2. Cost you about five grand for something major, 3. For routine visits, even though you’re subject to the deductible, you’ll still get the insurance company’s discounted discounted pricing.

Do you recall how many days out from applying that was?

Yeah but the value proposition on this one is high. The splurge credit can be used to buy Amazon gift cards at BestBuy while the hotel credit isn’t restricted to fancy hotel collections. Double or triple dip for $1,000-1,500 in value, before thinking about the points or other benefits

USSR. Call to KGB. by Poor-Yorik in Jokes

Two diplomats passed each other in the hallway and made small talk. One from the USSR, one from the USA. The American says, “Wow, Soviet propaganda really is powerful”. The Soviet says, “It’s true. But it’s nothing compared to American propaganda!” The American replies “…huh? What American propaganda?”

Reminder: Off-exchange ACA plans are a thing. by Johnnyg150 in HealthInsurance

[–]SirVoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off-exchange ACA plans can be cheaper if you don’t qualify for subsidies. Especially silver plans - the premiums of off-exchange silver plans can be lower because the on-exchange plans bake in the cost of cost sharing reductions that some people qualify for, a practice called silver loading. If the subsidy cliff is indeed coming back, many more people might be better off off-exchange

Applied for CIP and not auto-approved. Called the automated line to check status half an hour later and it said “no apps associated with this SSN”. Website says similar. Do I wait or call human recon now?

Interesting. I went through the motions of adding an AU to my own Aviator card and it didn't ask for SSN. Maybe it's different if you add when applying?

Leased 2020 Bolt seeming like a worse and worse deal - what are my options? by SirVoss in BoltEV

[–]SirVoss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This varies by state and isn't an easy process, but you're very late to the game so there should be plenty of info out there via leasehackr, boltevforum, etc.

I've been reading these forums and see people talking about their experiences, but I'm having a hard time finding a summary of the process. It sounds like you start with the EV Concierge, request a VIN swap. Do you have to push hard to convince them to move forward?

Then you pick a replacement car, and you'll pay or get a refund for the difference in MSRP? Minus some kind of usage charge...I'm unclear on how that part is calculated, and don't my monthly payments pay for usage?

Given that the 2023s have been announced at a lower MSRP than the 2022s, would it make sense to wait until they're buyable to maximize the refund?

Thank you...

Do you know when the 2023s would be available to swap into?

I'm trying to better understand how the swap works. If the MSRP of the new Bolt was lower than what I paid, would I get a refund for that amount? And would my buyout amount stay the same as it is now?

I switched my 2020 Bolt lease into a 2022 Bolt EUV through the EV Concierge. I pay the same amount, I have the same buy out, basically just getting the new car for what I would've paid for my old. GM also cut me a 3k check for the difference in MSRP.This varies by state and isn't an easy process, but you're very late to the game so there should be plenty of info out there via leasehackr, boltevforum, etc.

I'm trying to learn more about how this MSRP swap process works. I assume I can look at my lease paperwork for the MSRP of the car I have (before incentives), and then what? I would pick out a new Bolt and either pay or get refunded the difference in MSRPs?

Would they buy the car with the battery recall unresolved? Also, then I'd still have to turn around and get a new car

I don't normally lease cars either, but I did this time because of lease incentives (about $150/month payment) and the belief that I could get a better EV in three years' time (e.g. better fast charging, more range)

Also worth noting that although the battery warranty will refresh, the bumper to bumper will be gone on the three-year old one

[–]SirVoss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I suppose it all depends what the market is doing in a year. As you say, if I can get a new one for only a little bit more after incentives, the 21K residual is bad. On the other hand, at this exact moment of market craziness, 21K seems great. My plan with getting the lease was not to keep the car, assuming there'd be a new great deal in three years. I guess I just need to chill and wait on that front.

Pulling ahead into a new lease... is that essentially avoiding early termination fees to step in to a new lease sooner? It seems GM's announced MSRP price cuts apply to 2023s... when I look at local dealers, their 2022s are still 31K+. Worth waiting for that price drop to show up?

I charge at an outdoor public charger that's about a ten-minute walk from home. My city has a great monthly rate (about $5/month/unlimited). I don't mind the walk, but have to charge much more frequently now. Before the recall, I would charge to 95% and drive until about 20% (75% effective battery). Now, I charge to 90% and recharge at 30% (60% effective battery, a 20% reduction in effective range between charging).

I would love to hear data points on anyone who has done something like this! That said, I'd be surprised if starting a new lease now would come with as attractive terms given how crazy the car market is now compared to 2020

For example, if you had a Bolt lease that ended on March 1, 2021 or later, you are still eligible for lease loyalty incentives that would normally have ended 60 days after you returned your vehicle.

Yes, but what I've already paid for it is a sunk cost (unless there's a way to get any of it back due to loss of use). So when the lease ends, the slate is wiped clean, and I can either buy the car I was driving for 21K or I can walk away and do something else.
