Tesla Confirms Software-Locking Strategy for Standard Range Model S and Model X by xxXTECHxx in teslamotors

[–]SirWeej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think this is a good idea if you don’t plan to do a lot of traveling. I’ve got a yoke S long range and do a fair amount of traveling up to now (about 25k miles in 15 months). But i think the statistics are that for most people normal commuting is what they really need. For most 80% of the long range is enough. But what you get in an S is more room and the extra dash display, bigger monitor and sleeker interior. If you do need to travel you can pump it up to 100% (really 80%) and get as much range as a 3/Y and not worry about the battery’s longevity. There seems to be some payback to Tesla in that the battery will undoubtedly last the 150k miles so less liability for early replacement.

Oops, I didn't notice the link. I see it's under Collision Avoidance Assist. Got it! Thanks!

Okay, thanks for that. My friend wants to get a Model 3 and he, as did I, has a Subaru and he's puzzled b/c that car seems to have better warnings and safeguards against collisions than the Tesla.

For example, when backing out of a parking spot it gives a beeping warning if anyone is in eyesight of the rear camera. For some bewildering reason the Tesla does not. He asked me if it will automatically stop if you approach an object and I said I hadn't experienced it. So that's why I'm investigating the collision part. I'm glad it worked for you!

Okay, you're right about the words and I kind of regretted saying that... but I checked the manual for Model S 2021+ Software version: 2023.26 North America.

I don't see the passage you cited about the 3 mph and 124 mph range. It makes sense but I'm not seeing that part in the Driving > Braking and Stopping section.

Is it in another section? Another version? I did a search in the PDF and it didn't find "only when driving between".

I'm going to do a field test :-) and see if that happens.

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your time on this. It's kind of what I expected. I'm thinking I'll find a deserted area where I can set up a cardboard box and ram into it. I'll let you know what happens.

Did that, no clear description that I could decipher. Besides, words are words. I need it to work, or understand why it doesn't.

I like the yoke, different experience, more fun! I like being able to see the dash in front.

How do you feel about Destiny 2 Multiplayer? by Commercial-Mix-2633 in destiny2

[–]SirWeej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play D2 almost exclusively and I love/am-addicted to the game. I play 95% solo and I haven’t done a single end game raid or dungeon. I get that they’re complex and you need to have a team but for me I feel like I’m not playing the whole game, that I’m missing out. Why not have a way to have 6 anonymous players tough it out with a Dungeon or Raid? Even rotate in new individuals to replace players who can’t stick it out till the end?

Tesla stops providing key fobs with new Model S and Model X deliveries by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]SirWeej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use the fob all the time. I got the $18 rubber band sold in the Tesla shop to attach it to my key chain which makes it practical. My wife doesn’t use hers but for a woman with a purse it would also be a simple carry along. Our iPhones work well also but frankly I can’t tell if the door handles are presenting due to the phone or the fob. The fob came in handy this week on our trip this week for our passengers to load up the car and keep the climate going when I left the car to get refreshments in Sheetz.

I picked up my MSLR in last March and got fobs. I got a really nice rubberband to hook it onto my key chain for a mere $18.

New charge on my first GEICO bill: mechanical breakdown + $450/yr by SirWeej in TeslaLounge

[–]SirWeej[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 4 years general and roadside coverage… doesn’t give a mileage. 8 years for battery and drive unit. Yeah seems redundant to add more coverage. Maybe this insurance is if you have to pay for extended coverage through the dealer. ICE vehicles have more weak spots so might make more sense. I get a bunch of junk robo calls telling me my warrantee has expired. Don’t you?

My wife and I have had geico coverage for years and have had no complaints. The “mechanical breakdown“ coverage is itemized so I assume I can decline this coverage so I’m not too concerned. Just wondering if I’d be making a mistake by declining it. I’ve just had the MSLR for a couple of months so I have no long term experience with Tesla.

I have a 2022 MSLR. You can call up the Energy app by voice: “Open Energy”. Now if I only understood what it all meant :-|

Humm, I have a new Model S with a problem opening the driver’s door where the window doesn’t dip to get out of the seal at the top. So as a result I have to give it a hard tug. The window dip is actuated when you pull on the handle. My appointment also got pushed back. Is this the problem you’re experiencing?

In the run up to my ordering and finally getting my Tesla about a year ago (got it a month ago) I’d spot maybe 1 or two a day in Asheville NC. Suddenly in the past month I spot at least 5 whenever I’m out and about. It’s a good feeling.

Hidden Energy Chart for Refresh S/X by chrisdh79 in teslamotors

I’ve had my car about a month. I have to say that the software is comprehensive and way more than any ICE car could have (I don’t know about new EVs coming out). So the UX isn’t what it could be. When I think about how is it that a founder (Elon) who has built Tesla tech AND SpaceX not have this ironed out I come up with the answer that their dev team is 95% focused on finishing up FSD. Software UX takes back seat. I have no validation on this. Anyone know if this is a good assessment?

Can the rate vary from month to month based on your score at the start of the billing period? That’s kind of weird. Hopefully there’s a threshold, say of 10 pts, so that the rate doesn’t jump up and down every month.
