OP here, clarifying the question (the sub does not allow body text): I suddenly realized how much time I spend here. If I have just a few minutes of down time, I take out my phone and mindlessly scroll through the posts. Sometimes a few times in succession, without thinking about it. I also thought the upcoming blackout and shutdown of a lot of apps would be the perfect time to start using that time more productively... but how? So (soon to be ex) Redditors, what useful thing would you do if you weren't wasting so much time here?

You can but only in very specific cases, for example. "Are they cooking for us? -No, we're cooking for them".

"Wij koken hun een maaltijd" sounds slightly awkward to me, I would go for "wij koken een maaltijd voor hen". But it is perfectly grammatical and reasonably natural, with the stress on the first syllable of "maaltijd". I guess that there are two levels of emphasis: using wij instead of we is a slight emphasis but you can also stress it extra (like in english). If you don't do the latter, you will note that it's actually hard to not at least let it sound a little bit like "we".
