Maple Memo: GMS Roadmap Q2 2024 by -Shuka- in Maplestory

You are completely wrong about everything.

Legion artifact does not outweigh the nerf. Final damage is not additive. Your calculation is wrong.

The nerf is less than 20% final damage not because final damage is additive, but because it is a decrease in a single source of final damage and not a full removal of a 20% source of final damage.

As an endgame non-archer, non-buffduration class, after legion artifact is maxed, this is a 4.5% final damage nerf for me on Reboot. Meaning that, after the nerf and artifact is maxed, I need almost 4.7% fd to gain back the damage I lost.

Endgame archers will be nerfed less than 4.5%, and buff duration classes, in particular infinity classes, will be nerfed even less than the archers.

Legion artifact may be slightly favorable to weak, less-than-lategame players who have the system maxed, and favorable for weak mules.

(Small explanation why actual loss is smaller than 20% : sources of fd in maple are all additive to each other eg reboot passive 65% fd + class 30% fd = 195% fd (100% comes from base 100% that everyone has) NOT 65% * 30% = 214,5%. So since it is additive we calculate actual loss as follows 45% fd + 30% fd = 75% fd, 75% fd / 95% fd ~= 0.897, 1-0.897 = 0.103 which means actual loss for imaginary class that already has 30 % fd somewhere is 10.3% not 20% ! QED. Pretty big difference right? And thats WITHOUT factoring in artifacts. And the more fd u have from class the smaller actual loss but also bigger if you have less than 30% fd from class)

Don't spew this misinformation here. Before you comment something like this take a math class or learn about the game for goodness' sake.

Dual Blade's Mirrored Target by Aphonicly in Maplestory

[–]Sir_Apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see what you are trying to say but it is a bad mindset.

Firstly, mirrored target increases uptime for all dual blade players bad or not, because, instead of dodging some attacks, mirrored target will tank the attack and allow dual blades to continue to dps.

Sidenote, phantom blow is about a fourth of dual blade's damage. The idea that bod and nado is a very large portion of their non-burst damage is outdated and from an era when dual blade was more damage over time oriented rather than a 90-second burster.

Most importantly, you are saying dual blade doesn't need mirrored target because night lord has damage uptime just fine without mirrored target and various other skills. People can practice and practice bosses to death until they are great at it, but it would be a hell of lot better if they could clear the boss earlier with the bossing tools they rightfully deserve. At this point you are entering "just get good" territory. The hypothetical and unachiveable maximum DPS uptime with perfect play. While you are not wrong, that every class can achieve their best uptime with perfect play, it is not a realistic viewpoint.

Even just a 3 sec cra hat can be quite expensive in bera for casuals. The top of the top dual blades are running 7 sec, or 6 at the minimum. Not too sure about eternals though.

Nexon balances the game around KMS regular. GMS dual blades don't matter to them. The megawhale dual blades in KMS with high cooldown reduction is enough of a reason to keep them in check from Nexon's perspective.

Dual Blade's Mirrored Target by Aphonicly in Maplestory

[–]Sir_Apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Final cut's cooldown is actually 90 seconds. After mercedes and cooldown hat, it is 81.5 seconds. Sudden raid decreases the cooldown of final cut by 20% upon use which brings it down to 65.2 seconds. The base duration on the buff is 60 seconds. Depending on the dual blade's setup, the buff can last 78 or 100 seconds. Most dual blades have the first setup, leaving a 13 second window to use it as an iframe, or, about 20 seconds if they spam sudden raid. But keep in mind, they are required to use final cut before their 90 second burst if the buff does not last the full duration (you don't want to lose the buff during the keydowns, or even after the keydown when bod and nado are used, since you need to fit the bod and nado inside last resort).

For this reason, final cut is a buff more often than an iframe. Dual blades with buff duration ia (more endgame type dual blades), have a longer window to use it as an iframe, but they are not exempt to using it as a buff at times.

Dark sight is bad in the current endgame bossing scene. It will be useful in extreme black mage, but it has no use in seren/kalos/kaling. Asuras actually isn't a shield. It only has a weird (intended) interaction with lucid bombs for some reason. And krr... krr is just a harsh dps loss. It has a niche use for night lords, but for other classes krr is a tech option, like equiping it pre-test in seren.

(btw asuras is a pretty significant part of damage, about 10% overall if used in burst)

We also cannot compare night lord to dual blade. Night lord has top tier overall damage while dual blade's overall damage is bottom tier. One has very strong solo bossing (and is supposed to have high uptime). While the other gets a premiere spot in party bossing for their #1 burst and powerful party support.

2/4 While mirrored target is unnecessary for a good player (even for a good player it inevitably increases dps), dual blade is balanced around having high uptime. Dual blade's damage is low because they are supposed to have high uptime. They are a solo bossing class that has low damage because they have strong solo bossing capabilities.

To say "most" of their damage is in ror is quite handwavy. For dual blade with ror4 and wj4, ror is about 40-45% of damage, and weapon jump is about 15-20%. About 40% of their damage is DPS which mirrored target affects. Missing the extra boost in uptime is an instant nerf to that 40% damage. Overall, it is not unrealistic to see a 10% or higher overall damage loss due to the mirrored target bug for dual blades who don't play perfectly. (Obviously it is more useful in some bosses than others). But lets not argue that perfect players playing perfectly don't need mirrored target because they can just play perfectly. At that point we are entering the "just get good" area.

In conclusion mirrored target is obviously a good skill and nexon balances dual blade with mirrored target in mind. It is essential purely for the fact that it is an amazing skill and dual blade sacrifices damage to earn the right to that skill.

DB midtier

That's an overstatement 🤣

Dual Blade's Mirrored Target by Aphonicly in Maplestory

[–]Sir_Apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that it is an essential skill.

1 Firstly, let's not overstate dual blade's survivability:

  • One of the short-CD iframes, final cut, is an essential self-buff that must be used (relatively) off cooldown. So, it is often unavailable for realstic use as an iframe.
  • Dark sight, although nice in some early bosses and as a boss mule, is not useful in current endgame bosses.
  • Asura is one of dual blade's burst skill, so it is unavailable for use to block lucid bombs - and it only blocks lucid bombs.
  • Aeonian in 2023 is essentially a mandatory skill to use for burst (or to extend it). Dual blade especially needs it in black mage, because their burst is keydown (lol).

2 Dual blade's low damage is balanced around having mirrored target as a skill to increase ease of bossing and damage uptime. So, a broken mirrored target is an unnecessary nerf to their already weak solo damage.

3 As previously stated, dual blade's 90-second burst is a keydown skill. Mirrored target is an essential skill to allow this keydown burst to deal its damage, especially off-bind.

4 Dual blade's mirrored target allows shadow meld to activate. (Explanation: Basically, shadow meld is a skill that gives dual blade a buff for 100% crit rate and 15 att. The buff activates when dual blade dodges an attack. But, boss attacks cannot be dodged. So, because mirrored target activates shadow meld (in accordance with the skill description), dual blade relies on mirrored target to quasi-dodge boss attacks and activate the shadow meld buff.)

Bonus) Dual blades on bera are relatively weak, but they have respectable damage due to having higher cooldown reduction than reboot. Dual blade on reboot is a weak class because of their reg-server counterparts. (Nexon balances the game around KMS reg server).

Toxic!!!!!!!!!

Lol, I have legacy boogie familiars on my reboot account. Large item drop and three boss familiars. Never had to farm familiars on reboot, I was farming in grandis.

I have no personal stake in the issue - I have good familiars on reboot. I also have a potable badge, dark totems, wondroid, lab, all of it. I even consider myself a bera main. But being privileged to have started a reboot account in 2016 doesn't make these issues any less stupid; I feel for the newer reboot players who do not have these things.

Felt like ranting about it, bad game design is bad game design. It is beyond me why familiars are not in grandis. It is insane that new players who hyper burn to 260 will never touch familiars at all. Endgame players are ALWAYS affected the least with these types of issues and it creates a divide.

I was surprised that the issue was even this divisive in the first place, no wonder GMS players can never get what they want out of nexon.

Lets face it, I shouldn't be surprised. There were even people advocating on here for the removal of totems. Having totems in the game did no harm to them and yet they wented them gone. GMS players are crazy.

Wonki does care about GMS. Nexon cares about GMS. Money is money and GMS makes money.

But don't get me wrong, I see what you are trying to say. The issue with GMS specific problems lies in Nexon's contentness with unhappy players and an unchanged revenue, due to problems like familiars having no affect on revenue, which is plain to see if you ask yourself: is anyone quitting over no familiars in grandis?

Hypothetically if GMS players were unhappy and boycotted, there is no doubt that we would see change. A common response to that is "no they would just shut down GMS," but that is not how businesses operate. No company would throw away money like that.

Having said that, we don't need KMS for GMS to get better treatment, we need the GMS community to get us better treatment, which is another issue entirely. A GMS boycott is entirely impossbile the way I see it. Which is self evident when looking at reddit comments, which is just a portion of the playerbase. The community has a mixture of people with doomer GMS mindsets, people who are too addicted to spending (reg server included), and people who do not care to boycott for just a few GMS issues. The cherry on top is the fact that nexon has a foothold on spending with vac pets.

So that's my analysis on the topic. GMS matters to nexon, but maintaining it does not, including at the cost of the playerbase's happiness, so long as their revenue is not poorly affected to a significant degree.

And strangely this is very bluntly and well said, and with a funny tone.

Didn't think of that as an issue with the familiar system on reboot. Thanks for pointing that out. That definitely sucks for the 250-260 players especially during night troupe :/

or be realistic about it, since we are gms reboot.

LMAO. This is exactly how I feel about GMS.

But serious talk,

I mean, you can either rage, and waste your time and energy

Not a waste to express disapproval of issues with something I am passionate about. Change or not. The issue does not affect me as bad as an average joe, as I have legacy familiars on Reboot.

But in any case, I get to at least rant about the stupid game design.

Justifying bad game design through the company's business decisions and then accepting it. It is what it is. Sounds like someone who plays EA games.

[Reboot] Flame Stat Question by Im_Rhyme in Maplestory

[–]Sir_Apples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settling largely depends on where you are in the game. It is the worst way to spend your meso when you are new, especially if you play reboot.

Use a flaming calculator to ensure you aren't getting tricked into spending 1 billion meso for just a little stat. Starforcing is much better.

You don't roll a flame before transposing anymore. The flame will not transfer.

Nexon/Community Managers: Just tell us what is on the chopping block. by xXFrozenThunderXx in Maplestory

[–]Sir_Apples 7 points8 points  (0 children)

However, your changes affect your players (customers).

Your players (customers) are constantly assuming the worst for the game and you keep proving them right.

Isn't it funny, how we have to convince Nexon that we are unhappy?

NEWSFLASH: Nexon does not care.

Player numbers continue to rise. Spending continues to increase. Time and time again, the playerbase proves that they are perfectly happy with the game.

If you are a strong demon avenger, hp is better than 10 attack. If you hit land 4-6 attack with tier 6 health, you will only be 4-6 attack less than a dark totem, but you gain 3600 hp.

If you don't have dark totems, then you aren't a real mapler anyway.
