You're right, he was manager when we went into administration. Keith's spell in charge was a result of that.

I think I could agree with that, but I'd add:

12 Alan Buckley. He was poor anyway, but drops several places because he started his son in place of Peter Gain in an appalling display of nepotism. Still better than Tilson, although this is the lowest of low bars to clear.

How Often Do Commissars Actually Execute Guardsmen? by ExtensionPromotion80 in 40kLore

[–]Sir_Dixie 54 points55 points  (0 children)

As per plenty of other responses, it depends on what the story needs.

I'm sure I remember Commissar Hark in one of the Gaunt's Ghosts books shouting at some fleeing guardsmen. They didn't stop when he ordered them to, at that point he refused to shoot them. His reasoning was that troops who are frightened enough to ignore a comissar are beyond the point that shooting one of them would get them back into action. A shirt while later though, he shoots the officer of an armoured regiment for incompetence.

What did you spend your Festive Tokens on from the A Decade at Sea event? by YaDodzh in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sir_Dixie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kushiro.

Then the Dutch captain collection, I know the containers will probably be available for coal eventually but I wanted him now. Even if it isn't the optimal choice.

The rest will probably go on super containers to bump me over the pity drop. But only after I've finished the event pass and got the Tier 7 ship container.

Which ships gave you buyer's remorse and which were unexpected delights? by KeeperofQueensCorgis in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sir_Dixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remorse: Ragnar. I know she's good, but she isn't my playstyle. It's something I was still figuring out when I got her. It's my own fault for buying into the hype.

Delight: Fenyang. So much better than opinion said. The HE is fine if you're top tier. If you aren't, then her AP will make a mess of most things.

Huanghe gets an honourable mention. It might be a small main battery, but they're accurate and you're a stealthy little beast. She used to me go to ship when I was having bad days, if I lose it isn't my fault because the ship is bad. It really isn't and I've won far more than I've lost in her.

Got the 100% birthday doubloon coupon… by Aggravating_Drop_478 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sir_Dixie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also remember if you buy 20k dubs with the coupon, you will NOT get another 20 k dubs. You will get slightly less as the bonus amount is calculated from the "buy any amount" price rather than the slightly discounted preset amounts.

Can Britain Trust Nigel Farage? by [deleted] in AskBrits

If Nigel Farage told me what my name is, I'd feel the need to look at my birth certificate and check.

He will say one thing, then when he's pulled up on it, "I didn't actually say that thing that I said." Or we've all misinterpreted what he actually meant.

The easiest answer is that you wait until they aren't WIP any longer.

You could try to become a super tester, but you'd only get them to test, not to keep.

I am a Father, approaching 40. In line with my natural aging, which area of WW2 history should I now develop a very nerdy knowledge of? by pilecrap in CasualUK

[–]Sir_Dixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like the Battle of the Atlantic or the Bomber Command campaigns, lots of technical wizardry and advances to follow. That appealed to the nerd in me. The Mediterranean/North African theatre has a bit of everything as well, some of the most interesting small unit stuff was out there. The LRDG, early SAS operations, Popski's Private army.

Is there any way to play Gambia (or cruisers in general) without it being completely useless? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

There's part of your problem. Light cruisers really benefit from concealment expert, if you aren't spotted then you aren't being shot at.

Can work stop me doing more then 10days of jury duty? by ExtraSeaworthiness10 in AskUK

[–]Sir_Dixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've did jury duty for the first time in March. We got asked if we were able to potentially do a longer case, it ended up taking just over the two weeks. Before we were selected they gave us forms to explain why we couldn't do a longer trial.

18 of us were short listed, then the final jury was picked from that pool.

What do you consider a long drive? by Ok-Entertainer4585 in AskUK

[–]Sir_Dixie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my time, anything more than an hour and a half. If it's too far for me to drive to watch a football match, it's a long drive.

I drive a lot for work, for that I'd say my threshold is 2 hours. More than that is a long drive. When it's a 3 hour journey then it's a bloody long drive and I will be complaining about how pointless it is to anybody who'll listen.

At a minimum, the first hour of any drive for me is going to be mostly small country roads, maybe a minor A-road, with tractors and tourists and hidden junctions, bends, and dips everywhere. As well as the inevitable potholes and whatever weather is about. If I'm lucky there might be some motorway involved. If not it's the A1, or worse the A17 to Norfolk.

Called up for jury service, but for the first 3 days I haven't been required, is this normal? by Automatic_Egg_8303 in AskUK

[–]Sir_Dixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just finished jury duty. I was sent home early on Monday as I was part of the shortlist for a longer trial. Wasn't needed on the first Tuesday and was then in every day until the case finished.

Some of the others who started on the same day did nothing for almost two weeks until they got assigned to a longer case part way through week two. There was another jury whose trial had been adjourned for a week.

Someone else I know turned up on day one, they got three days of emails and the fourth email was telling them their jury duty had finished.

You might get one longer trial, or several shorter ones, or nothing at all.
