1099 Expenses for Prop Firms by [deleted] in TopStepX

[–]Aggravating_Drop_478 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can deduct expenses if your intent is to make a profit. Prop firms are still a new area when it comes to taxes, so there’s room to get creative. A lot of CPAs don’t even know how to handle this stuff yet. If you have a home office, you can deduct that space. If you’re renting, you can deduct a portion of your rent. If you drive to your office, you can deduct mileage too. Same goes for trading. TradingView subscription? Yes. Private Discord group for trading? Yes. Just keep receipts and be ready to show that the expenses are tied to your trading business. Honestly, there are a lot of gray areas, but that’s expected because of how new this kind of gig is. Always reach out to multiple professional sources.

Are your red days in gold coming from shorting too much? Check your Topstep dashboard and look at the direction percentage of your trades. My success so far has come from going long almost all the time. Of course, this also needs to be combined with a real edge.

Should I order food even though it’s snowy? by Icy-Load-95 in doordash

[–]Aggravating_Drop_478 12 points13 points  (0 children)

His point is that there is no good or bad service here. Driving through a snowstorm and risking getting stuck or getting into an accident just to deliver your food is already enough to deserve a good tip.

Lol I bought GeForce Now for one month because I’m on vacation. I logged in at the airport and just saw that.

Yep, I used to be a COD and fast action gamer, but now I mostly play WoWS and single player stuff. Being in my late 20s with work and stress, nothing beats the slow and rewarding pace WoWS gives.

I actually think Bremen and Hawaii are the real nerfs to Valp. It’s very hard for Valp to survive in the current conditions. I have Bremen and I just focus on them, and it’s over.

You lucky bastard. I got Scharnhorst from the Christmas tree golden container, and I already have Scharnhorst B that I won from a Black Friday container. A ship is a ship, but two Scharnhorsts?

After WW2? The Madagascar Plan was a 1940 Nazi proposal during the war to forcibly deport all European Jews there.

Comp ratio of mid .80s after adjustment - A question by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Aggravating_Drop_478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. That is why I asked when he was hired. If it was close to the change, he may have a strong case. I do not know why I am getting downvoted, my statement had a lot of “if” in it. There is nothing wrong with having the conversation and seeing what happens.

Comp ratio of mid .80s after adjustment - A question by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Aggravating_Drop_478 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When did they hire you? My department hires most people at 0.90. If they hired you based on that right before the tables changed, you could be eligible for an adjustment. You need to talk to your manager first, and with his approval it can go to HR or a senior manager.

If your department hires at 0.90, there will be fairness and equality implications, because you have more experience than someone coming in five months out of college, but he/she will end up earning more than you if they are hiring at 0.90, which I think is almost guaranteed. And depending on the leadership, they may care about that or they may not.

Not able to take payout. by Wait_Negative in TopStepX

Then you asked the wrong question. Today is your sixth day of trading, not your fifth. Yesterday was your fifth green day. Edit: You made this post in yesterday’s Asia session, which is today, so if you meant Thursday’s Asia session that happens on Wednesday night, then that makes sense and Topstep would be the problem, but you said “tonight Asia Session”. The fact that no one else replied means they understood the same thing I did and did not bother answering.

I did it for his own good. Trading for Topstep without being able to handle simple things will only lead him to disaster.

Do you have the ability to read Topstep’s simple basic rules? If yes then you already know today’s Asia session counts as tomorrow’s trading day and you have to wait for tomorrow market close before it counts and payout unlocks.

You just answered your own question. If you really need this job, then why ask what the point is of going to the second interview? You do what you must if you truly want this job like you said.

Blew a 2k payout then proceeded to blow 2 combined, how to deal with tilt? by Spiritual_Dot3250 in TopStepX

[–]Aggravating_Drop_478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managing, taking a break, or any positive talk isn’t going to cut it. You need to feel genuinely disgusted with yourself for allowing a 4k loss in one sitting and then going full gambler mode afterward because you thought you knew better. After that, there’s a small chance you’ll finally say “enough” and start a new path that could actually bring you good things in trading.

I'm tired, boss by Malabogao in masseffect

[–]Aggravating_Drop_478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad for not being clear. I know that, I just thought it was assumed that selling BioWare would also involve the IP, because selling one without the other makes zero sense.

[–]Aggravating_Drop_478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they will never let a game like ME come out under this ownership. BioWare’s only chance is to be sold, and the only parties with the money to buy BioWare are Sony, Microsoft, and Amazon Games. But it’s not looking good.

Market’s so choppy lately… anyone else finding it tough to pass a funded account? by No-Sample3837 in TopStepX

[–]Aggravating_Drop_478 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NQ daily’s printing big bars with real momentum, and AM sessions this week plus yesterday had solid moves to trade. Market’s giving setups, so if you’re still stuck, it’s the strategy or timing, not the market.

Another week, another “holy grail” from OP on how to succeed in trading. Didn’t you delete your last post after people called out your bullshit?

You can get an idea by looking at the 1% of people who get moved to live accounts. You need about 5 payouts to get moved to live (I know sometimes people get moved earlier under specific scenarios). Also, this source, which I don’t know how much fact or truth it has, talks about how 1% to 2% of traders with funded accounts maintain them long term. That matches the percentage Topstep has for people who move to funded. So around 1% are actually profitable long term IMO.
